Citing the state plan to restart the economy and their own desire to ensure the well-being of all festival participants, the Center Theatre and Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce announced that the 2020 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival will be postponed until Saturday, Oct. 3.

The Center Theatre has announced that it will be hosting a live online performance of Bobby Keniston's comedic play “Waiting to be Probed: A Love Story” at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 2.

Thompson Free Library will host Mary Freeman, assistant professor of history at the University of Maine, live via Zoom at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 as the first speaker in a series celebrating Maine's Bicentennial.

Private ponds that are stocked with trout provide multiple benefits for landowners and their families. This is the time of year to order trout to stock your pond! The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District’s 2020 Trout Sale pick up will be held on Wednesday, May 20. Customers must pre-order and pay for all brook trout by Monday, May 18.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension has a new online resource designed to encourage all the gardeners who are waiting for warmer weather and soil ready for planting.

Fr. Aaron Damboise will offer the sacrament of reconciliation in a drive-through format at Holy Family Church, 145 Pritham Avenue, at 3 p.m. on Saturdays. 

University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering Maine farmers a chance to connect online from 7-8 p.m. on Fridays to ask questions, get answers and share information.

Pine Tree Hospice’s volunteers make up a large group of women and men in Piscataquis, Penobscot, and Somerset counties, giving 4,399 hours of their time last year. They come from every walk of life and bring with them life experiences that make them perfect matches for the many clients with life-limiting illnesses.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, pews across Maine were empty during live-streamed Masses at parishes across the state for Holy Week and Easter Sunday (April 12). That was not the case at Holy Family Church in Greenville, thanks to the inspired creativity of parish staff looking to offer support to Fr. Aaron Damboise, pastor of the parish as well as St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Jackman.

Gov. Janet Mills formally moved Maine’s June 9 primaries to July 14 and pushed back all election-related deadlines by a month on April 10.. Her executive order delaying voting followed a statement earlier this week that it was "not going to be possible" to hold the elections in early June while maintaining required social distancing measures.

Like many other venues of its kind, the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft is closed these days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some theater officials are still at work, but instead of showing movies and hosting live events they hope to collaborate with the local performing arts community in a unique effort to boost the spirits of local residents while still generating some income to support the nonprofit enterprise.

The next Dover and Foxcroft Water District trustees meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 13 by video conference call.

Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, April 5, and continues through Easter Sunday, April 12.  The Holy Family Parish of Greenville and St. Anthony of Padua Parish of Jackman will live stream services at facebook.com/aaron.damboise.50.

BROWNVILLE — Brownville Community Church, beginning on Easter, will ring its church bell at noon every day to call the people to pause and take a moment to pray for the end of the virus and to restore the health of the people afflicted with the disease.

The Center Theatre announced that they are asking for volunteers to help communities keep in touch while we are all keeping our distance. According to Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre executive director, the Theatre is working to help people stay connected  and hopefully bring a little joy into their daily life.
