The Foxcroft Academy girls soccer made program history by playing at home in the postseason for the very first time on the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 25. Visiting Ellsworth High School, the ninth seed in the Class B North tournament, spoiled the day for the No. 8 Ponies by scoring twice in the first half to win 3-0.

More than two dozen students in the younger grades at Piscataquis Community Elementary School are now HEROs for their outstanding conduct. The HERO honorees were recognized with the presentation of certificates during the elementary morning meeting on Thursday, Oct. 24.

Dover-Foxcroft selectmen are considering a plan to convert the local airport into the home of a 4-megawatt solar power project, a proposal that is drawing opposition from pilots who use the facility. In order for the solar project to move forward, Charles A. Chase Jr. Memorial Field would need to be decommissioned, a town official said. A public hearing on the plan has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Morton Avenue Municipal Building.

In a game featuring plenty of offense -- the two teams combined for a dozen trips to the endzone -- Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln scored three times in the fourth quarter to retake the lead and hold off Foxcroft 47-35 in a Class D North/Little Ten Conference matchup on Friday, October 18 at Oakes Field.

The Dover-Foxcroft municipal airport at Charles A. For close to two decades nearly 3,000 third grade students across the region have each been given a dictionary thanks to the Valley Grange and the organization’s Words for Thirds Dictionary Project. The first batch of dictionaries for 2019 were given out on the afternoon of Oct. 15 to approximately 75 students from the four grade 3 classrooms at the SeDoMoCha Elementary School in Dover-Foxcroft. Pupils and teachers traveled to the Guilford Grange Hall to receive their books.

A quarterback sneak and interception in the endzone helped give Dexter Regional High School a 27-21 overtime victory vs. Foxcroft in a Class D North/Little Ten Conference contest on the afternoon Oct. 12. The win is the first for the Tigers over the team’s neighbor to the north since the Reagan administration.

SAD 4 officials have found a solution for design and access issues with the district website at www.sad4.org and providing information to students, parents and the community. During an October 8 school board meeting at Piscataquis Community High School the directors authorized Superintendent Kelly MacFadyen to use up to $15,000 from the minor capital improvement fund to contract with Apptegy on revamping and then maintaining the website.

SeDoMoCha Elementary students celebrated autumn by filling a “Storybook Pumpkin Patch” in the school library through a contest featuring pumpkins decorated to resemble a character from the pupils’ favorite books.

When the Piscataquis Community High School and Penquis Valley High School boys soccer teams played on Sept. 24 in Milo the final score was a 2-2 tie. The rematch in Guilford on Thursday, Oct. 3 featured a different result as the host Pirates scored all three of the game’s goals in the last 18-plus minutes of the second half to win 3-0.
