Girl Scouts of Maine announced that it will host new member sign-up events for potential members and volunteers at locations throughout the state every month, including at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Ridge View Community School.

Thirteen General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)/Miosac Club members gathered at the home of Roxy McGlauflin for a porch party dinner meeting. It was a lovely meeting and club members got to watch the deer in the backyard. McGlaufin, Brenda Quiet and Betsey Ryan served as hostesses. Members brought dishes to share and all were enjoyed.

Michael and Wendy Denney, innkeepers at the Guilford Bed and Breakfast, will host a harvest-themed Chamber Business After-Hours from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. Business After Hours events are gatherings designed to give member businesses the opportunity to open their doors to surrounding business owners that may not otherwise visit, for a night of casual networking and socializing.

Once again in the 2019-20 school year SeDoMoCha Elementary School families will have the opportunity to read together as part of a shared reading experience through the 10th annual One Book, One School program. For a month through early October students and family members will read and discuss “The One and Only Ivan” by K.A. Applegate, which tells the story of a silverback gorilla who lives in a cage at the mall

The Center Theatre recently announced that the Bradford Historical Players will be presenting the murder-mystery play “Dinner at Eight, Dead by Nine” at the Center Theatre on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. Admission is only $5 and proceeds will benefit both the Bradford Historical Society and the Center Theatre.

Beginning on Tuesday, Sept, 17 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and continuing for six consecutive weekly sessions, residents of greater Piscataquis County will have the opportunity to learn about essential oils from Marcia Walden, BSN, RN, and one of three registered aroma therapists in Maine. Walden is well-known throughout the region as a home-health and hospice nurse associated with Community Health and Counseling. She shares her essential oil healing expertise with her patients in her clinical work.

With hints of autumn in the air, the temperatures cooler and the days shorter, our thoughts turn to … the Harold J. Crosby Community Band Camp. This year’s camp, the fourth annual, will run from Sept. 13-15 at the Ridge View Community School.

Pilots from across the country and Canada are expected to attend the popular International Seaplane Fly-In from Sept. 5-8, which also draws some of the biggest crowds of the summer season to the Moosehead Lake region.

A space for residents to gather during the middle of the week, and enjoy a healthy lunch starting the middle of next month, is being provided in the former Fossa’s building by the Dexter Seventh Day Adventist Church.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. the Abbott Memorial Library in Dexter will be showing Alfred Hitchock’s 1963 film “The Birds” that focuses on a series of sudden and unexplained violent bird attacks on the people of Bodea Bay, California over the course of a few days.

On Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. the United Methodist Church of Dover-Foxcroft will host a concert by Dan Schall, whose music ministry takes him and his wife on the road to share how God has touched his life with a beautiful singing voice in spite of his severe speech impediment.

The Mid-Maine Duplicate Bridge Club played at the Guilford Memorial Library on Aug. 26 with the following results: tie for first place, Herb Greenberg and Joe Keavney of Dexter and Dennis Paterson of Abbot and Norman Bridge of Parkman; and third place, Priscilla Higgins of Dover-Foxcroft and Barbara Greenburg of Dexter.

Yoga instructor and Pine Tree Hospice volunteer Gayle Worden RYT, is offering free Yoga Nidra sessions for both professional and family caregivers in the community and for hospice volunteers as well. The sessions are about 45 minutes in length and are held at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church on West Main Street. The next session is from 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14.

After a successful two-weekend run at the Center Theatre, the cast and crew of “Tuesdays with Morrie” is getting ready to go on the road for two performances at Greenville High School. The funny and heartwarming play was written by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom and is based on the New York Times bestselling book written by Mitch Albom. Angela Bonacasa directs the Center Theatre's production.

The 46th annual International Seaplane Fly-In is coming up the weekend of Sept. 5-8. It promises to be a lot of fun for participants and spectators alike. It is a time when the population of Greenville swells as folks flock to the popular event. Besides watching pilots show their skills, folks can browse an excellent craft fair as well as the local shops, stop and listen to live music and enjoy delicious fare from local restaurants.

If the idea of a total makeover or a complete revamp seems overwhelming, why not aim for a small shift? Sometimes a well-timed, quick reboot will do the trick and is more convenient, fun, and can infuse daily life with a cool and interesting vibe. The Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft is just the spot to mix things up a little.

The Dover-Foxcroft Historical Society invites all to the Wednesday, Sept. 4 meeting to be held at 7 p.m. at The Commons at Central Hall. Maine author Tim Caverly will present his “Jeopardy”-style PowerPoint program “So You Think You Know Maine.”
