DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis County Commissioners awarded bids for paving and road work projects on the Elliotsville Road during a July 7 meeting.

GUILFORD — Thanks to the generosity of the Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union, the patrol and investigation divisions of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office will have a new home in downtown Guilford at the former Key Bank building.

MILO — When county residents head to the polls on Tuesday, July 14 they will be voting on a pair of state bond questions, political party primaries when applicable and a question concerning a bond to purchase the former Key Bank building in downtown Guilford to be the new home of the sheriff’s office patrol and investigation divisions.

GUILFORD — A proposed $7,397,862 budget for the 2020-21 academic year was approved — with all 22 articles approved as written over 20 minutes with minimal discussion from the more than 30 registered voters present — during the annual district budget meeting on June 25 in the gymnasium at Piscataquis Community High School.

DOVER-FOXCROFT —  A proposed $11,970,877 RSU 68 budget for the 2020-21 academic year was approved at the annual district budget meeting on June 23 at the SeDoMoCha School.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has created unexpected costs for Maine communities and businesses.

Solutions will not happen overnight but some changes could be made to improve downtown Dover-Foxcroft for vehicular and pedestrian traffic alike. Nearly a year ago the town began to look for some possible solutions for the stretch of road where East Main, Pleasant, South, West Main, North and Lincoln streets converge having agreed to use up to $25,000 for the municipality’s 50/50 share with the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) on a cooperative agreement for a traffic study. The downtown includes the major routes to Bangor, Dexter, Milo and Greenville. Gorrill Palmer Consulting Engineers Inc. of South Portland came on board as a consultant.

In addition to her role as SAD 4 Superintendent, Kelly MacFadyen may be returning to the Greenville-based Union 60 but in a different capacity than before. SAD 4 officials are considering a potential service agreement between the district and Union 60 for superintendent services and other functions in the 2020-21 academic year.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the Dover-Foxcroft annual town meeting process will consist solely of a vote at the polls on Tuesday, July 14. In years past decisions on the municipal budget have been made with an in-person town meeting in the gymnasium at the Morton Avenue Municipal Building, with items approved that day then moved to referendum for final approval.

An area Grange member who has been dedicated to the organization at the local and state levels, served the region in the Maine Legislature and in local government and has given back to the community in many other ways was honored by Piscataquis Pomona -- the local Grange district -- on June 4. Jim Annis of Dover-Foxcroft received the Piscataquis Pomona Award for Public Service as part of the monthly Piscataquis Pomona gathering held at the Valley Grange.
