Attention veterans and surviving spouses of veterans, on Wednesdays during the month of July the American Legion service officer will be at American Legion Post 41, 18 West Main Street, from 1-4 p.m.

The newest item of interest to the general public is the receipt of two DVDS featuring home movies compiled by John and Joe Michaud (sons of Andrew Michaud). One of these videos shows scenes in Brownville Junction and people of the area; the second is video of scenes along the Canadian Pacific Railroad from Quebec, through Maine and into New Brunswick. These home movies were made by Andrew Michaud and his dad Sam Michaud from 1939 through the 1950s. These can be found on YouTube.com.

The Sebec Village Associates will be operating the community library at the Reading Room, 665 Sebec Village Road, again this summer. There are no fees to borrow books and media from the library which boasts an extensive collection of fiction and nonfiction.

On June 21 the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) held a Families in the Outdoors: Garden Fun! event at the Law Farm. During this event district staff, volunteers and Piscataquis Regional YMCA Camp Katahdin campers worked together to plant a new sunflower pollinator garden for the children’s area at the farm.

The Abbott Memorial Library board of trustees are pleased to announce new summer hours for the library’s Makerspace. Mrs. Millette will have the Makerspace open Tuesday to Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Three young makers from the Abbott Memorial Library’s Makerspace recently set up shop at a roadside stand and sold $97 of items they had made. With the money they purchased supplies to donate back to the Makerspace in Dexter.

It also embraces mind-body activities including breath work paired with poses to achieve more overall wellness as well as meditation, which has been extensively researched to improve so many aspects of health.

A special evening of music with the Lovely Family will be Friday, June 29 at 7 p.m. (refreshments at 6:30 p.m.) at the Brownville Community Church as part of the church’s 200th anniversary celebration.

On June 12 members of the Dexter Public Health Association gathered in the town council chambers to prepare envelopes for the annual fund campaign. Contributions from members of the communities support free nursing services, regardless of income, to Dexter, Ripley and Garland residents.

Come celebrate thriving farms at “Root Down: A Farm Viability Party” hosted by Maine Farmland Trust (MFT) at Ripley Farm on the Merrills Mills Road from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 27. Guests can take a tour of the farm, enjoy snacks from Spruce Mill Farm & Kitchen, a cash bar with local beer and wine from Bissell Brothers and wine from Oyster River Winegrowers, learn about MFT’s Farm Viability work to help farms thrive and hear what the farmers at Ripley Farm are doing to grow their business.

The Monson Public Library is gearing up for an exciting summer. The library will be changing its hours of operation starting Saturday, June 1. The new hours will be Tuesday 12:30–4:30 p.m., Thursday 2:30–6:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is located at the Monson Arts Center, 35 Greenville Road.

Application packages may be picked up at the Parkman Town Office. Completed applications must be submitted by June 30. Scholarships will be awarded at the eighth annual Memorial Scholarship Supper in early August.

The Brownville-Brownville Junction Historical Society held its annual meeting on May 14 at the Parish House Museum. The election of officers retained the same officers from last year: President & Secretary Susan Worcester, Vice President George Dean and Treasurer Lana Washburn.

Four women from the GFWC Miosac Club in Dover-Foxcroft attended the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Spring Convention at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport May 2-3. Attending were Suzanne Raymond, who is GFWC Miosac club president, GFWC Bylaws Committee member, GFWC New England Region treasurer and GFWC Maine parliamentary advisor; Anne Cress, who is GFWC Miosac Club vice president and GFWC Maine Leadership chairman; Minnie McCormick, who is GFWC Miosac Club publicity chairman; Vicki Moschella, who is GFWC Maine Conservation chairman; and 63 other clubwomen from around the state.
