On July 5 the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a 21-year-old female hiking southbound on the Appalachian Trail (AT) complaining of nausea near the Wilson Valley Lean-to. Four game wardens from the Greenville area responded along with Greenville Fire Department, Monson Fire Department and C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital EMS personnel.

A former Foxcroft Academy soccer star is again helping dozens of young players in kindergarten through grade 8 improve their skills on the pitch through his annual Ayala Soccer Academy. Local solar energy entrepreneur Tyler Adkins announced his independent campaign to represent District 119 in the Maine House of Representatives. Following a successful pilot project during the summer of 2017, the Moosehead Lake Region Economic Development Corporation (MLREDC) will launch the first full summer season of the festive Artisan Village at 35 Pritham Avenue on the Moosehead lakefront in Greenville. Four colorful cottages will house different artists from all over Maine beginning the weekend of June 23-24 and then Thursday through Monday from June 28 through Sunday, Sept. 10.

Two employees of the Greenville school system were honored at a retirement ceremony in the auditorium of the school on Tuesday, June 4. Roxanne Cunningham had been teaching for 39 years and Vera Davis was a bookkeeper for 16 years. Altogether these ladies had served the Greenville school system for a whopping 55 years!

One of Greenville’s most special citizens, Perley Hood, age 100, was recently presented with a Boston Post Cane, honoring his status as the town’s eldest citizen.

Since 2008 the Maine Warden Service has been working in cooperation with the US Coast Guard (USCG) to secure funding for enhancement of recreational boating safety on inland waters. Utilizing a grant obtained within the USCG’s Office of Boating Safety, six new deputy game wardens will be put to work to help manage Maine’s inland recreational boating activity.

Greenville Schools are well into their baseball and softball seasons, and not only are the teams performing well on the field, but they’ve been doing a lot to promote their special cause this year – suicide awareness.

The Moosehead Marine Museum (MMM) received a $5,000 grant from the Bangor Savings Foundation to support filming of a historical documentary film featuring steamboat wrecks in Moosehead Lake.

The Bill and Joan Alfond Foundation has awarded Good Shepherd Food Bank, Maine’s largest hunger-relief organization, a $200,000 grant to fund strategies for eliminating food insecurity in Piscataquis County and central Maine, including Dexter.
