Maine Civil Air Patrol cadets to mark 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 at International Seaplane Fly-In
GREENVILLE — Members of the Maine Wing Civil Air Patrol will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks during the 52nd annual International Seaplane Fly-In.
A special remembrance ceremony will feature 40 Maine Wing Civil Air Patrol cadets and 15 Civil Air Patrol senior members presenting colors and participating in a moment of silence while displaying a large American flag on the flight line. Nonprofit Wreaths Across America is honored to provide the 10- by 15-foot American flag which will be displayed by the cadets.
The tribute will take place during the 52nd annual International Seaplane Fly-In, the world’s largest and longest-running annual seaplane fly-in. Maine Wing Civil Air Patrol has supported the International Seaplane Fly-In for over 30 years.
SEPT. 11 REMEMBRANCE — Members of the Maine Wing Civil Air Patrol will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks during the 52nd annual International Seaplane Fly-In with ceremonies on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Civil Air Patrol flag ceremonies will be Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. each day at Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, 19 Village St.
The event will provide cadets and attendees with an opportunity to honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, while recognizing the service and sacrifice that followed. Many pilots and attendees at the International Seaplane Fly-In are veterans, making the annual gathering a meaningful setting for this year’s 25th anniversary commemoration.
The event also reflects Civil Air Patrol’s commitment to developing the next generation of service-minded leaders.
In addition to supporting operations during the Fly-In, Civil Air Patrol members will host a fundraising booth throughout the weekend to benefit cadet programs throughout the state.
