The Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft is proud to sponsor a variety of programs for the benefit of children. Through the Community Christmas Project, Kiwanians, area churches, charitable organizations, businesses, generous individuals and groups of individuals have the opportunity to anonymously “adopt” needy children within our community for Christmas. An adopter then purchases needed clothing for their adopted child(ren).

A number of events are planned for the weekend and on Halloween as part of the annual Dover-Foxcroft Halloween BooNanza. A full schedule and more information is available at http://www.boonanza.info/.

The East Sangerville Grange was overflowing with local citizens during the Piscataquis County Democrats’ fall dinner on Oct. 14 as well as Democratic candidates for the upcoming 2018 election.

On Oct. 17 Richard M. Brown, Charlotte White Center CEO Emeritus, was the recipient of the Lewis and Clara Lamont Advocacy Award for longstanding commitment, advocacy and support for the Maine brain injury community. The award was also given in recognition for Brown’s 10 years of service on the State Acquired Brain Injury Advisory Council including his current service as co-chair of the council.

The Emmy Award-winning documentary “Sonic Sea” will be shown at the Center Theatre at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26. The showing will be free thanks to a partnership between the Center Theatre and the Sierra Club Maine.

On the weekend of Oct. 13-15 author Ken Hatchette visited the Parish House Museum as his new book “More Than a Train Yard and a Whistle Stop: The Canadian Pacific Railway’s Brownville Division 1886 to 1963” was presented for the first time.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)/Miosac Club met Oct. 3 for a souper supper with 17 members and two guests.

Upcoming October and November events

Recently, the United Bikers of Maine (UBM)-Piscataquis County held a fundraising ride for the Charlotte White Center. The UBM-Piscataquis County heads out on the road for non-profit organizations throughout Piscataquis County and this time it was the Charlotte White Center’s turn.

Dexter Regional High School is proud to announce that the following pupils have been selected by the faculty as "Students of the Month" for September: grade 9: Michael Gadwah; grade 10: Seth Hocking; grade 11: Sage Hight; and grade 12: Alex Gould.

On Oct. 4 Kaitlin Young of Stetson was presented with a legislative sentiment by her local delegation recognizing her achievement of being named the Maine 2018 Teacher of the Year.

Dexter Regional High School recently celebrated Homecoming Week, and at the annual Homecoming dance on Oct. 7 eight students were crowned as the Homecoming Court.

The Center Theatre is holding its Pumpkin Jam Fall Fundraiser at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20. The event will feature a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, as well as complimentary food and desserts. The entertainment for the night will be a battle of the bands between three local favorites, the Doughty Hill Band, the Josh Guthrie Trio and Happy Folk.

Timothy Branco, a regular customer of the A.E. Robinson Convenience Store in Dover-Foxcroft, won the $15,000 Pump Up the Fun with Irving Oil Second Chance drawing.

Calendar of events

Over 60 participants of varying ages traveled more than a mile from the Kiwanis Park gazebo and back through downtown Dover-Foxcroft during the Partners for Peace’s Walk to End Domestic Abuse on Oct. 4 as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
