Four generations of the Jackson family were together.

From 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) will host a skill-sharing event at the Abbott Memorial Library on the basics of sharpening a chainsaw. When you understand the geometry of a chainsaw tooth and how it works in concert will all its neighbors, you can do a better job in keeping it sharp. And when it’s sharp, the saw works so much better, relieving stress on your body.

On the afternoon of Saturday, April 14 the Abbott Memorial Library will welcome Keith Ludden and Molly Graham of Oral History and Folklife Research Inc, which is dedicated to preserving the stories, recollections and voices of Maine people, events and movements.

No movement yoga? That’s right, Yoga Nidra promotes healing and overall well-being with no movement. The instructor uses visualization and affirmation to create an environment in which healing can occur, and leads a guided session with her voice. Yoga Nidra restores a balanced state of mind and a deeply rested body by relieving tension and stress at their root and it is done lying down.

Ridge View Community School students recently participated in the Eastern Maine Math League middle school meet. The grade 7 team from the school in Dexter comprised of Will Kusnierz, Payson Rienhardt, Sydney Fogler and Anna Jayne Pittman placed fourth out of 23 seventh grade teams.

Ridge View Community School seventh-grader Payson Rienhardt, the son of Brian and Liza Rienhardt, has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2018 Maine National Geographic State Bee. The contest will be held at the University of Maine-Farmington on Friday, April 6.

Adam Bagley of Parkman, who also is the co-salutatorian of the Class of 2018, has been selected as the Maine Principals Association Principal’s Award winner for Piscataquis Community High School, Principal John Keane announced.

I have high hopes for spring, even if it’s taking an eternity to get here. A pileated woodpecker, I’ve named Pyewacket (after Kim Novak’s cat who stalks Jimmy Stewart in the quirky film “Bell, Book, & Candle”) is visiting our bird feeder at home (perhaps pye-babies will follow?). And, thankfully, ice cream stands are opening again!Black raspberry, anyone? Besides showers, April brings a wide-range of events to the Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft.

Beginning at 6 p.m. a few short videos will introduce the topic of “blockchains,” after which we’ll try to figure out how what we just saw may affect our lives, even if we are not hi-tech in the slightest.
