After what seems like an endless winter, we can’t wait to celebrate spring -- a hopeful new season. And celebrating is a recurring theme this April at the Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft.

We are still in the midst of the 2018-19 school year, but we are rapidly approaching the summer season. With that in mind, we look to the future. On Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. Foxcroft Academy will host the annual Step-Up Night for eighth-grade families.

At the Commons at Central Hall on Thursday April 11 at 1 p.m., Sandra Ingerman, MA, a world-renowned teacher of shamanism, a licensed psychotherapist and a board-certified expert on traumatic stress will present, via video, a program explaining and demonstrating how shamanic ceremony supports trauma healing. This free program is part of the Sounds True Healing Summit and is brought to the public by NAMI Piscataquis County.

Yoga instructor and Pine Tree Hospice volunteer Gayle Worden RYT, is offering free Yoga Nidra sessions for both professional and family caregivers in the community and for PTH volunteers as well. The sessions are about 45 minutes in length and are held at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church on West Main Street The next session is at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 13.

Beatles for Sale, a top-rated New England Beatles tribute band, has announced they will perform at the Center Theatre at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT), a national nonprofit that promotes the safe and humane production of meat, milk and eggs, awarded a Fund-a-Farmer Grant to Turning Page Farm, owned by Joy and Tim Bueschen. This grant is designed to expand humane farming. Turning Page Farm will use its award to improve pasture and install fencing for goats and chickens on pasture.

Please join your neighbors at the upcoming free screening of the documentary “RESILIENCE” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 7 at the Center Theatre. This film chronicles the research about the impact of toxic stress upon childhood development, and offers exciting new ways in which we all can work to promote resilience in all of our children – including our very youngest.

Each month outstanding pupils in grades 5-8 at Piscataquis Community Elementary School are honored as Students of the Month. The 10 March honorees were presented with certificates in front of their peers during morning meeting in the cafeteria on Wednesday, March 27.

The Center Theatre is accepting registrations for the 2019 April vacation Theater Camp. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday April 15 through Friday, April 19 and will meet at The Commons Event Center at Central Hall.

Premium Choice Broadband is nearing the final stages of its latest project to bring high-speed fiber internet connections to rural Maine. The company has invested $2 million in private funds and installed over 40 miles of fiber-optic cable connecting Dover-Foxcroft and downtown Monson with what is the fastest internet connection in the state.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)/Miosac Club met at Thayer Parkway March 19. Guest speaker was Thompson Free Library Librarian Greta Schroeder, describing many things the library has to offer. Many new services are now available, the library has been modernized with new equipment.

SeDoMoCha Builders Club Adviser Heather Whitten presents a $750 check to Foxcroft Academy Key Club President Kelli Black for the club’s Thirst Project fundraising to benefit the non-profit organization with an aim to bring safe drinking water to communities around the world where it is not immediately available.

On Friday April 5 Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) will hold its next public discussion, the topic of which will be “Humanity’s Phase Shift.” Faced with rising environmental, social, economic and political problems across the planet, human beings are recognizing that the old governing systems based on competition and rivalry which have produced remarkable results for our species in the past are no longer workable as we approach 8 billion of us.

Dexter Regional High School’s Seeds Of Peace students led a dialogue session on Tuesday, March 19. Student leaders from clubs and organizations at the high school were invited to address issues and begin to discuss solutions.
