The public is invited to a meeting on genealogy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22 at the Sangerville Town Hall meeting room, sponsored by the Sangerville Historical Society.

The American Legion 14th District - - Piscataquis County -- will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday Oct. 19. It will be hosted by Joseph P. Chaisson Post 41 at the Post home.

Growing Through Grief is one of Pine Tree Hospice’s new Adult Bereavement programs and has taken the place of the former Lunch and Learn group. The “lunch” might be gone, but the support, delicious desserts and learning experiences continue. The Growing Through Grief program begins with a facilitated grief support group for adults which is then followed by a grief-related presentation or workshop.

When the Countryside Meat Market closed its doors last spring, the Dover-Foxcroft community lost a long-time source for meat and friendly local service. The owners had retired and the store was up for sale. But now Heartstone Farm is planning to reopen the market on Saturdays starting Oct. 19. The farm raises 100 percent grass fed beef on 500 acres in Charleston. The farm and has been renting the meat market for storage and distribution since June.

The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District is partnering with the East Sangerville Grange again to provide an afternoon of family fun at an upcoming cider pressing event. This event at the East Sangerville Grange on Sunday, Oct. 20 will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be packed with pressing fun and a delicious potluck lunch.

Many creameries around Maine will open doors Sunday, Oct. 13 for tours and cheese tastings among other activities. Each creamery will offer something a little different. One of the local participating creameries is Widdershins, LLC at 843 Bear Hill Road. They will be open with tours and product tastings from noon until 2 p.m.

The Mid-Maine Duplicate Bridge Club played on Sept. 23 with the following results: first place, Ron Lyford of Hartland and Harry Bridge of St. Albans; second place, Gertrude Wiley of Dexter and Georgia Prickett of Cambridge; and tied for third, Dennis Paterson of Abbot and Norman Bridge of Parkman and Priscilla Higgins of Dover-Foxcroft and Jim Greehey of Dexter.

The first in this series is on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Democratic headquarters, 25 North Street, from 1-3 pm. The conversation on Oct. 5 will explore different aspects of the First Amendment, including the right of peaceable assembly, the right to petition the government for redress of grievances, the prohibition of laws establishing a religion or those that prohibit its free expression and the right to freedom of speech. Free pocket-sized copies of the U. S. Constitution will be available to all participants.

The Abbott Memorial Library presents “Psycho” at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9 for a free movie night, with free refreshments.

Girl Scouts of Maine announces that it will host a new member sign-up event at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 at the SeDoMoCha School.

In 1820 Maine became the 23rd state, separating from Massachusetts, and the Grand Lodge of Masons in Maine was established. The first Governor of the State of Maine, William King, was also the first Grand Master of Masons in Maine. In recognition and celebration of these historic events Chris Russell, District Deputy Grand Master of Maine’s 5th Masonic District, has organized a celebration for Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds.

The United Way of Eastern Maine invites the public to a Fall Day of Caring at the Piscataquis Regional Food Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4. Those taking part will spruce up the grounds to help create a welcoming space for people receiving food assistance.

On Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. at The Commons at Central Hall, “The Effect of Toxicity on Mental Health and Cognitive Decline and How to Overcome It” will be presented by NAMI Piscataquis County. This video will examine the extent of the toxicity problem today and share the natural and safe ways to detoxify your body to improve your mental and overall health. This program is free and open to anyone interested in the topic.

On Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10 until 11:30 a.m. the Dexter Age-Friendly Community Committee will hold its first "Tea Talks" session at the "Gathering 4 Main Street" community center at 4 Main Street.
