The third annual Kiwanis Cruise-In will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5 (rain date is Aug. 6) from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ridge View Community School.

The Moosehead Marine Museum (MMM) received two separate $10,000 grants from the Libra Foundation and the Fisher Charitable Foundation to support production of a historical documentary film featuring steamboat wrecks in Moosehead Lake.

Thanks to the generosity of Hometown Health Centers, the Center Theatre is hosting Lyme disease specialist Dr. Bea Szantyr at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25. Dr. Szantyr’s “Tick Talk” is an informative look at ticks, the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi which causes Lyme disease, the incidence of Lyme disease in Maine, the difficulties of medical diagnosis, and steps to take to protect oneself and family.

For Maine deer hunters who plan ahead, this is the time of year to submit your applications for the annual drawing of any-deer (doe) permits. Statewide this year, the Department of Fish and Wildlife will issue about 66,000 any-deer permits. This is 20,000 more doe permits than were issued in 2016 – a 45 percent increase.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19 the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department along with the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene of a rollover crash that occurred on the Bangor Road just north of the South Dover Cemetery. Officers arrived and found there was a crash that had struck a parked vehicle which careened into the front porch of a home at 1282 Bangor Road in Dover-Foxcroft.

The Dover-Foxcroft Homecoming Committee has been very busy planning the “95th Anniversary”-themed parade on Saturday, Aug. 5. They have selected residents celebrating their “90 something birthdays” to participate in the parade in a special way.

FairPoint Communications, a Consolidated Communications company, recently announced the completion of broadband expansion projects across Piscataquis County.

Partners for Peace, the domestic violence resource center formerly known as the Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance, will host a 40-hour training session in Dover-Foxcroft for anyone interested in volunteering with the organization. The training will begin in August and take place over six to seven weeks.
