Change is constant when managing fish and managers must be able to react. We need to adjust regulations, stocking, and/or other management techniques to keep on top of it. Most importantly, we must monitor the fishery, especially after making a change, to determine the effectiveness of the management strategy.

The world of sports and the world of politics have many similarities. Winners and losers. Fierce competition. Obsessive, almost cult-like, devotion to individual people and teams. Cheering crowds.

Managing Maine’s incredible sport fishery -- and its associated regulations -- is complex and always subject to second guessing by arm-chair fisheries “biologists,” who may sincerely believe that they know how better to manage the fish in their favorite angling waters.

Under the new law, a second-time offence of hunting deer over bait during hunting season will result in a permanent ineligibility for that hunter to obtain a hunting license in Maine. Davis would like to lessen the penalty to a two-year ineligibility period.

The Center Theatre is accepting registrations for the February Vacation Drama Camp which is being held at the SeDoMoCha School. The camp runs from Feb. 19 through the 23rd, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a performance at the Center Theatre the evening of Feb. 23.

The Foxcroft Academy wrestling team and head coach Luis Ayala visited the Statehouse on Feb. 6. During the visit to Augusta, Ayala was honored before the House of Representatives with a legislative sentiment recognizing his accomplishment of being awarded the distinction of U.S. Cellular Most Valuable Coach.

On Feb. 2 Piscataquis Community Elementary School seventh- and eighth-graders traded their textbooks for skis. A total of 53 students headed to Big Squaw Mountain for an afternoon of skiing -- many of whom first learned how to ski last year in this program while others were figuring out how to maneuver in ski boots for the first time.

On Jan. 26 a crew and equipment arrived at St. John’s Episcopal Church from J. M. Brown General Contractors of Hermon. Their purpose was to install a new steeple on the church. According to some of the local people, the equipment and the project created a bit of a stir in the village.
