Two wrestlers from Piscataquis Community High School qualified for the all-state tournament on Feb. 23 at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School after their performances at the Class B championship the Saturday before. On Feb. 23 senior Zachary Wilson and sophomore Jacob Nadeau represented the Pirates at all-states.

One school record was not enough for Stone to break on Saturday. Stone brought home the championship, an invitation to New Englands and he was honored as the Outstanding Wrestler competition. He had received Outstanding Wrestler recognition at the Class B championships the Saturday prior. Stone, a junior, has had an excellent season and is prepared to take the mats in Providence.

Monson Arts announced that it will partner with the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) to support two month-long design residencies for RISD graduates this summer at its facility in Monson. This initiative will bring two to four industrial or furniture designers to the Piscataquis County community once widely known for furniture manufacturing.

The Dover-Foxcroft Firefighters Association’s eighth annual ice fishing derby returns on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3 at Sebec Lake with the weigh-in station open during the day at Greeley’s Landing

The new group beginning in March will be held on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in Dover-Foxcroft. Participants in the group need not have utilized other Pine Tree Hospice services; the facilitated group is for adults in the community who are experiencing grief due to a death. The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Miosac Club is conducting its 2019 Sebec Lake Ice Out Contest for the 43rd consecutive year. Tickets may be purchased from any club member through March 31. Monies raised will be used to maintain a variety of club projects in the Dover-Foxcroft area. The person who guesses the closest date and time the ice will go out of the Narrows at Sebec Lake will receive a $100 check.

Dexter beat Penobscot Valley twice during the regular season, but even though the Tigers led by eight at halftime of Saturday night, Feb. 23’s Class C North girls basketball championship game, the Howlers were confident that they could come out on top.

In a battle of the Lakers, No. 3 Greenville pulled an upset win over top-seeded Rangeley to come out on top 41-20 for the girls’ D South regional crown at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday, Feb. 23. The regional title is the first for Greenville since earning top honors in Class D West in 2010.
