If you are living alone as a person 60-plus years of age or as an adult with a disability, you may feel vulnerable or frightened from time to time. Family members, whether they are siblings or adult children, are increasingly busy as they scramble to make a living and raise their children. Adult children move far away for new, life opportunities, leaving parents and siblings behind by themselves. Individuals are often completely alone.

On Monday, Sept. 24 over 800 moose hunters were expected to enter the Maine woods pursuing the state’s most majestic mammal. This is the 38th year of Maine’s modern moose hunt, a hunt which resumed in 1980 after being closed since 1936.

After 24 years in Sangerville’s Town Office, Town Clerk Alvina Church will retire at the end of October. To recognize Church’s many years of service and dedication Town Manager Lois Jones announced plans for a drop-in retirement party for Church at the Sangerville Fire Station from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25.

Local author Joe Siccardi will facilitate a six-week class trying to demystify writing in general and taking out the fear of sharing your written words. The interactive “Take the Fear Out of Writing” class will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5 at The Commons at Central Hall, Dover-Foxcroft. It will continue weekly through Nov. 9.

A Baileyville man was sentenced Monday, Sept. 24 at the Piscataquis Judicial Center in Dover-Foxcroft to seven years in prison with all but three suspended on a series of charges stemming from a January domestic violence assault.

Jackie Tourtelotte has been on the front line of injury prevention in high school sports in eastern Maine for more than a decade. She started at Orono High School and for the last eight years has been the certified athletic trainer at Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft.
