It is with great pleasure that the Baxter State Park Authority announces the appointment of its new Baxter State Park Resource Manager, Michael Pounch.

Can cattle be handled and moved around without all the hooting and hollering that cattlemen are known for? They can, some experts say, and doing so can mean better meat. Known as low-stress stockmanship, it will be a hot topic at the second annual Cattlemen’s College is slated for Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, in Charleston and Orono.

In Penobscot and Piscataquis counties, Republican Marianne Lynch beat Democrat Joseph Belisle by a vote of 57.3 percent to 42.7 percent, according to unofficial returns. Lynch, who currently serves as deputy district attorney, was the chosen successor of longtime District Attorney R. Christopher Almy. He was first elected in 1986.

Athletes from each of the area’s five high schools received recognition on the 2018 fall Penobscot Valley Conference All-Conference Teams.

Players from across the region were selected for 2018 Maine Soccer Coaches Association Regional All-Star Teams.

Rita C. Clukey was presented with the Boston Post Cane for being Dexter’s oldest female resident during a town council meeting on Nov. 8. Earlier in the week Clukey turned 98 as she was born on Nov. 4, 1920 in Canada.

The brother of a Medford woman who went missing two years ago announced a $12,000 reward Thursday for information that could lead law enforcement to his sister, who was 71 when she went missing.

Going into Tuesday's election, there were a lot of predictions. A lot of polls. A lot of prognostication. The conventional wisdom was that we would see a Democratic tidal wave across the nation from the House to the Senate to state governorships.

I would like to thank every person in Maine House District 119 that exercised their right to vote in the recent elections.
