The Narrow Gauge Riders Snowmobile Club of Monson is sponsoring the 2019 Lake Hebron Ice Out Contest. Guess the date and time the ice officially goes out of Lake Hebron and win $100.

On Saturday, March 9 before the Foxcroft Youth Wrestling Tournament a special ceremony took place. Josh Pelletier, a 2006 graduate of Foxcroft Academy, had his singlet retired in front of a packed gymnasium. Pelletier is the second Pony wrestler to receive the honor -- four-time state champion Jerod Rideout was the first.

While legislation could be submitted immediately on behalf of the board, I believe that to do so would place a decision reserved for the citizens of HAD 4 directly with the Maine Legislature. I represent the citizens in seven of the towns in the HAD, and I believe that given the information and opportunity, the townspeople will make the right decision. The results of a vote by the citizens would indicate to legislators that the process in the charter had been followed and would hopefully provide more clarity to what the people want to happen with their hospital and health care services.

Ridge View Community School seventh-grader Kaleb Ranquist, the son of Erin and Robert Ranquist, has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2019 National Geographic GeoBee Maine State Competition. The contest will be held at the University of Maine Farmington on Friday, March 29.

The popular Dudley Trail up Mount Katahdin won’t reopen this year, according to Baxter State Park officials. In a post on the park’s Facebook page, park officials said it’s “difficult to gauge” when it will reopen.
