On May 4 Foxcroft Academy, Greenville High School and Piscataquis Community High School took part in a Penobscot Valley Conference meet at Ellsworth High School. The Foxcroft boys scored 34 points to place sixth among a dozen schools.

On May 5 Dexter Hannaford organized a clean-up day around town with help from Dexter Recreation Department and Dexter Fire Department. Immediately after the cleanup, Hannaford put on a BBQ at the fire department for those who helped.

Family members have memories of special occasions, and these occasions are often marked by important belongings. Who gets these family heirlooms? Jane Conroy will be addressing this topic at the next Pine Tree Hospice Lunch & Learn on Tuesday, May 21.

The ice was declared to be “out” at 9:48 a.m. on Friday, May 3. The winner of this year’s contest is Larry Miller of Howell, New Jersey. His was the closest guess with a time of 10:04 a.m.

Climate change is such a polarizing issue that passing bipartisan legislation to address it has been out of range, till now. Citizens Climate Lobby, a national nonpartisan organization, recently helped introduce the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, by a bipartisan group in the U.S. House of Representatives. Enacted into law, this bill would reduce carbon pollution and bring climate change under control by charging a fee on fossil fuels. The idea is called “fee and dividend.”

At the May 1 SAD 46 school board meeting the following students at the Tri-County Technical Center (TCTC) in Dexter were introduced for their recent achievements:

Foxcroft Academy will hold the 2019 commencement exercises on Sunday, June 9 at 1:30 p.m. A baccalaureate ceremony will be held before graduation at noon. Both ceremonies are planned to be outside on the East Lawn of Foxcroft Academy, with the gymnasium ready in case of inclement weather.

Students and staff of Piscataquis Community Elementary School recently announced several public events of interest to families and the community.

While most all-terrain vehicle riders are safe and respectful while operating their ATVs, some others aren’t. On May 1, Maine Gov. Janet Mills announced that she has formed an ATV Initiatives Task Force to address the riders who operate on the wrong side of the law, trespassing, damaging private land and making landowners reassess their access policies.
