Miosac Club art show at Foxcroft Academy

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On Tuesday, March 24 the Miosac Club, a GFWC Club, sponsored an art show at Foxcroft Academy with art teacher Martha Ladd. Twenty-four entries were judged by artist Suzette East.

The first-place winner was Teagan Conrad who received $50. Second-place winner was Jaydin Griffith-Klimetz, who received $25. Third-place winner Marion Deitz received $15.

People’s Choice went to Kinley Myers who received $10. An honorable mention was given to Dylan Belanger. East stated that entries this year were all outstanding and suggested for next year that we have a digital category.

Thirty-six students, members of the Miosac Club and parents and grandparents attended. Cookies  and pretzels were a hit for all.

East discussed each entry with much positivity and enthusiasm. She gave art lessons with each picture. She explained and showed elements of each piece of art. Elements of art like line, color, shape, form, texture, value and feelings, balance, depth and movement. There were a variety of types of art like charcoal, college, pastels, digital generated, water color, oils and alcohol ink. All students eyes were glued to each picture as East analyzed it. They nodded their heads and smiled as she talked about their wonderful pieces of art.

Six members of Miosac Club attended. They were Roxy McGlauflin, Brenda Quiet, Suzanne Raymond, Diane Leighton, Vicki Moschella and Rheba Michaud, chair of the program.

Anne Cress, McGlauflin, Kathy Ryder, Quiet, Raymond and Dot Tonick  baked the cookies and bought pretzels for refreshments. After the art show, many students went to class, some stayed for congratulations and to discuss their pieces of art. The atmosphere was very quiet but positive as students talked about next year.

These five pieces of art will go to Newport to the Regional District Art Show of the Miosac Club. Then winners will go to the GFWC Spring Convention at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor May 14-15.
