One found dead after cooking-related house fire in Dexter

DEXTER — One person was found dead Friday evening, Jan. 23 after a house fire on Grove Street that appears to be cooking-related.
The Dexter Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 62 Grove St. at about 5:29 p.m. and when they arrived, they found the two-story single-family home heavily involved in fire.
One occupant escaped the blaze, but firefighters located a deceased male on the second floor while suppressing the fire, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss.

HOUSE FIRE — One person was found dead Friday night after a cooking-related fire at 62 Grove St. in Dexter on Jan. 24.
Fire investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office made a preliminary determination that the fire began in the kitchen and appears to be cooking-related. The investigation remains ongoing.
The person who died was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for formal identification.
Multiple fire departments assisted Dexter firefighters in battling the fire, including Dover-Foxcroft, Corinna, Newport, Sangerville and Garland.
