Foxcroft closes out the regular season with win vs. Brewer

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Early in the second quarter of a mutual Class C regular season finale on Oct. 24 between Foxcroft Academy and Brewer High School, the visiting Witches tied play at 7-7. The Ponies responded with a touchdown drive, then an interception in the endzone that led to another touchdown and fumble recovery that resulted in a possession ending in a 39-yard field goal for 17 unanswered points and 24-7 halftime lead.

Foxcroft would find the endzone two more times to win 38-7 — the team’s second most points of 2025 — to close out the regular season with a record of 5-3 on Senior Night. The Ponies had dropped two of the team’s last three games so the program avoided its first losing streak since 2019 (a team that went 3-5 in the regular season and 4-6 overall but advanced to the Class D North semifinal round).

With other games to play later in the weekend impacting Foxcroft’s playoff positioning, the Ponies finished seventh in the 13-team statewide Class C standings. As the No. 7 school, Foxcroft is set to host 10th-seeded York High School (1-7) in a prelim game scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31. In week 3 the Ponies won at York 26-20 with the matchup being played across the border in Dover, New Hampshire. The Foxcroft-York winner will advance to a quarterfinal at second seed Leavitt Area High School of Turner (6-2).

Brewer got on the scoreboard with a 4-yard touchdown run by freshman Carson Theriault, he would gain 103 yards on the ground on 19 carries, with the ensuing PAT tying the game at seven points for both the Witches and Foxcroft. Brewer came into the matchup on a 5-game losing streak and the skid was extended to six to end the team’s season with a record of 2-6 and in 12th place with no postseason berth.

TUCK AND RUN — Foxcroft Academy senior quarterback Simon Turzik gains 11 yards for a first down at the Brewer-16 during the Ponies’ 38-7 victory on Senior Night on Oct. 24, running away from Brewer junior Caleb Smith (9) and sophomore Evan Cameron. Pony linemen pictured are, from left, junior Steven Li, sophomore Lucien Pearl and senior Beckett Taylor.

The Ponies followed with a quick touchdown-scoring drive, going 72 yards in seven plays. Senior Landon Smith capped the drive off with a 14-yard run to the left, getting inside the pylon for the score to put his team ahead once again and for good.

A false start moved the PAT try back five yards, but this was no problem for sophomore Leo De Poza. He kicked the ball through the up-rights for the 14-7 lead on what would turn out to not be his longest kick of the quarter.

Brewer followed by moving the football 48 yards in two plays to be set up at the Pony 21-yard line for a 3rd-and-9. Witch senior quarterback Eli Wall threw into the endzone where Foxcroft senior Simon Turzik made the interception for the touchback.

Nine plays later the Pony offense had a 1st-and-goal at the 8.

AROUND THE BALL CARRIER — Pony senior Cameron Rounds is among the players dropping Brewer freshman Carson Theriault for a 1-yard loss during the Oct. 24 regular season finale. Foxcroft won 38-7 to finish at 5-3 and earn the seventh seed for the playoffs with a preliminary round matchup to be played against No. 10 York High School (1-7).

Turzik got the start at quarterback, throwing for 73 yards and a touchdown on a 7-of-11 night while also rushing seven times for 71 times as well as making two interceptions on the other side of the ball, but junior Evan Seavy also took some snaps as the signal-caller.

On 1st-and-goal it was again Seavey’s turn. The shotgun snap from senior Beckett Taylor was on the mark as Seavey rolled right. He found senior Finn Holmes wide open in the endzone. Another De La Poza PAT made the score 21-7 just outside of two minutes.

Brewer soon had possession at the team’s own 45 with a Witch timeout stopping play at 20.9 seconds. After the whistle to resume play Foxcroft Aidan Bryant made a strip sack and the defense recovered at the Brewer-28. A 5-yard catch by senior Aiden Harvey moved the football a bit closer for a long field goal try in the opening half’s final seconds (the play inbetween the reception and kick was an incompletion).

From 39 yards out, De La Poza kicked the ball through for a 24-7 advantage.

LONGER PAT — A flag for a false start moved the Foxcroft Academy kicking unit back five yards but sophomore Leo De La Poza still booted the ball through the up-rights on a hold by junior Evan Seavey. De La Poza would later kick a 39-yard field goal.

Holmes found the endzone in both the third and fourth quarters, on a 8-yard run and 28-yard reception from Seavey respectively. He got over the century mark on the ground with 107 yards and a touchdown in 13 attempts and caught three passes for 38 yards and a pair of scores, getting across the goal line on three separate occasions.

Fellow senior running back Landon Smith picked up 86 rushing yards on his own in 11 carries, including the go-ahead touchdown.

Before kickoff members of the Class of 2026 were recognized. Seniors on the Pony roster are Aidan Bryant, Griffin Caruso, Colby Faloon, Aiden Harvey, Henry Holman, Finn Holmes, Jaden O’Bar, Lucien Pearl, Cameron Rounds, Lucas Sands, Landon Smith, Beckett Taylor, Daniel Turgeon and Simon Turzik.
