Fears are crossing US border are unwarranted

To the Editor;

In a June 3 column, Catherine Maule stated that she was not visiting the United States from Canada in part because of fear of being held at the border.

I lived in Québec and married a Canadian. In 15 years of crossing the border, I can say crossing into Québec was hell. There was more scrutiny.

I think the American border uses common sense and due diligence. If you have proper paperwork, answer questions with honesty and have clean records, welcome to the USA.

Both borders utilize the same authority and ask nearly identical questions. I think her fears of her children’s detention are unwarranted.
