PCHS scores a half dozen goals in Homecoming win over John Bapst

GUILFORD — Play on the field could not have gone much better for the Piscataquis Community High School field hockey team during its 2024 Homecoming game vs. John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The Pirates scored a season-high six goals against the Class B North Crusaders, the previous mark was four goals vs. Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln on Sept. 9. The team also earned its second shutout in a row, third in four matchups dating back to a 3-0 road win at John Bapst on Sept. 18, and fourth in seven games at the midway point of the season.

PCHS is now 4-3, having won two straight and three of four. John Bapst dropped to 2-5, being shut out for the third straight contest, and now having lost five of six.
Early in the opening quarter Molly Goodwin passed to Emery-Jo Chambers. Chambers’ shot found the mark for what would turn out to be the game-winning goal just over five minutes in. A few minutes later Kiara Moore directed a loose ball in for the 2-0 advantage at the 7:01 mark of the first quarter.
SPLIT THE DEFENSE — Khloe Kimball gets between a pair of John Bapst defenders during the Sept. 28 game in Guilford. Kimball scored goal No. 3 for the Pirates, who improved to 4-3 with the 6-0 victory.
The score remained 2-0 until a goal by Khloe Kimball early in the second half. Kimball snuck a long distance shot in-between John Bapst keeper Bella Gallant and the right post. Gallant would finish with a game-high 11 saves with multiple stops coming in each of the four quarters.
PCHS would double its goal total with three in the fourth quarter. Chambers and Moore each picked up their second goals of the game and Hannah Firth’s closed out the six on the day.
SHUTOUT PERFORMANCE — Ava Edes handles the ball against John Bapst on Sept. 28. PCHS posted its second shutout in a row, third in four matchups, and fourth in seven games so far this season.
Karrigan Wilson earned the shutout in goal as she did not face a shot, but Wilson and defense prevented John Bapst from having any prime scoring opportunities on a pair of penalty corners — one in the second quarter and the other in the third. PCHS would have nine corners of its own across the second, third, and fourth quarters.
