Harold J. Crosby band in concert Dec. 17

DEXTER — The Harold J. Crosby band presents its holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, 8-12 Main Street in Dexter.

This holiday concert has both traditional carols and songs of the season, including a premiere performance of “A Canon for Christmas”. Featured selections include “All I Want for Christmas is You”, “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “Stille Nacht Gallop” (a special “Silent Night” arrangement) , a Christmas sing-a-long and other seasonal music.  Hot beverages and desserts are provided. Admission is by donation at the door.

The Harold J. Crosby Community Band of Dexter was organized by the band’s current conductor, Earl R. Lord, in 2006. Known then as the Dexter Community Band, the band consisted of 10 musicians, a number which quickly grew. Over the years since, the band has averaged 20-25 musicians. In 2014, the band changed its name to the “Harold J. Crosby Community Band” to honor Dexter native and composer Harold Josiah Crosby, a contemporary of John Philip Sousa and a march king in his own right by composing regimental marches during World War 1. The band is a member of the New Horizons International Music Association and the Association of Concert Bands.
