GFWC MIOSAC Club news
DOVER-FOXCROFT — President Minnie McCormick brought the GFWC MIOSAC Club meeting of April 4 to order. She thanked the evening’s hostesses Vickie Parsons and Brenda Quiet. Vicki Moschella is the evening’s program chairperson. May baskets will be hand made by the members. McCormick also read a parable.
Wendy Hutchins led the Club Collect, Pledge of Allegiance, and the American’s Creed.
Secretary Diane Leighton did the roll call. Twelve members were present.
Leighton read the secretary’s report which will be filed as read.
Treasurer Suzanne Raymond read the report. It will be filed as given.
Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin read a thank you email from Barbara Hathaway, chair of the GFWC Maine high school art show, for the MIOSAC club donation.
Quiet of the advisory committee reported the next meeting will be held at the Congregational Church on April 18 with hostesses Betsey Ryan and Rheba Michaud. Program chairperson is Anne Cress who will present GFWC MAINE President Maureen Provencal.
Lookout Chairperson Vickie Parsons announced a member was ill.
Publicity Chair Moschella announced the previous two meetings were recorded in the past two Friday’s Piscataquis Observers.
Old business:
Members suggested five businesses and/or charities to donate to. Members will vote for three choices at the next meeting.
McCormick asked Vice President Hutchins if she had suggestions for an activity the club can do for Mental Health Awareness/Yellow Tulips Week in May. The members will clean up the Marion Doore Park (TBA) and they will wear yellow. Volunteers will bring rakes and hoes etc. They are anticipating seeing the yellow tulips (planted there in the fall) sprouting along with daffodils.
Pictures will be taken and a write-up will be sent to the Piscataquis Observer for printing by Publicity Chairperson Moschella.
Raymond will announce the future date in April when the pinwheels will be “planted” for child abuse awareness.
McGlauflin would like to have an agenda prepared for the July bi-annual yard sale.
Hutchins will let the group know when she and Foxcroft Academy art teacher Martha Ladd are ready for the MIOSAC Club to pursue the art from students. Those chosen will be awarded with a cash prize. The art will be taken to the director’s meeting and art show in Newport on April 29 to also be presented along with students around the state for recognition.
New business:
McCormick wanted to reiterate that Provencal will be visiting the next meeting as guest speaker — please attend to get to know her.
McCormick adjourned the meeting and she instructed everyone how to make mini May baskets. Moschella brought tons of crafting items to use.
Hostesses Parsons and Quiet were well prepared to hand out delicious snacks and cake. delicious as usual.
