GFWC Miosac Club news
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The GFWC Miosac Club held a meeting on March 7 at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church.
President Minnie McCormick called the meeting to order. Kathy Ryder led the Club Collect, Pledge of Allegiance, and the American Creed.
Recording Secretary Diane Leighton did roll call with 12 present. She then read the secretary’s report. It was accepted and filed.
Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin had nothing to report
Treasurer Suzanne Raymond gave her report. No questions so the report will be filed.
Brenda Quiet of the Advisory Committee reported the next meeting will be on March 21. Program Chair is Rheba Michaud. Hostesses are Leighton and Clara Lucier. Quiet handed out a sign-up sheet for next years’ meetings.
Lookout Chair Vickie Parsons was absent as were several others.
Publicity Chair Vicki Moschella reported that the two previous meetings were reported in the last two Piscataquis Observers. The club scrapbook is half done and will be ready for judging at the Spring Convention in May in Bangor.
Old business:
Raymond read the Annual Club Report from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2022, tallying signature club programs and reports. The GFWC Miosac Club had 38 projects and 822 volunteer hours. Very impressive numbers.
Raymond noted that the Northern District Meeting and art show will be held in the Newport Cultural Center on Saturday, April 29.
Reminder, Spring Convention will be at the Bangor Hilton Garden Inn on May 11-12. President McCormick would like to see a large attendance for both the District Meeting and Spring Convention from the Miosac Club members.
A date has been picked for the bi-annual yard sale. It will be Saturday, July 15 with a rain date of the 22nd. Three Rivers Kiwanis will be asked if they would want to pick up any leftover items for the organization’s annual auction.
Michaud reminded members to bring food cupboard donations to the next meeting.
President McCormick also reminded members to keep collecting can tabs and corks to be brought to the Spring Convention.
No more old business. No new business. Meeting adjourned.
Time for refreshments by hostesses Quiet and Lorna Holman.
Program Chair McGlauflin began the annual “Pound Party” (items weighing at least a pound were selected by each member and wrapped beautifully, thus bringing some high bids on the unknown items). Our very own exuberant auctioneer Raymond, did a wonderful job selling the packages. Very fun and exciting evening. Total made was $224!
McGlauflin announced the proceeds will be donated to GFWC Maine President Maureen Provencal’s Special President’s Project, “Mental Health Matters.” Thanks to all the participants.
