Malcolm “Mickey” Alden Doble
MILO & BANGOR – Malcolm “Mickey” Alden Doble, 84, passed away June 23, 2014, in Bangor. He was born in Milo in June 20, 1930, the youngest of Frank and Stella Doble’s four children.
He attended Milo schools and was a standout basketball player for Milo in the 1940’s. Mickey attended the University of Maine, earning a bachelors and masters in education. He served two years in the U.S. Army in Salzburg, Austria, as a cryptographer. He married his wife, Marilyn Engleman, in 1954. They celebrated their 60th anniversary on June 19th.
Mickey served as principal, teacher and coach in LaGrange and Stonington, as well as principal in Bridgton. Moving the family to Rockland in 1962, Mickey became the first principal of the new Rockland District High School. He would be principal in Rockland until 1974 with the exception of two years. In 1974, he took the same job at Brewer and was there until he retired in 1985. Mickey was voted Principal of the Year for the state of Maine in 1984.
Marilyn and Mickey had four children, Lynne of Brewer, Bob of Bowdoinham, and Mike of Woodbridge, Virginia. Their youngest son, Tom, died in 1999. They have seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mickey was predeceased by his siblings, Frannie, Reg and Dick.
Mickey enjoyed golf, snowmobiling, boating and fishing and treasured summers at the camp he built on Sebec Lake in 1965.
The family would like to thank the many caring staff members at the Maine Veterans Home who treated Mickey with dignity and respect during his last year. Also heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at St. Joseph Hospital for all the support they provided to Mickey and the family in the days before his passing.
A celebration of his life will be conducted 2 p.m., July 6, 2014, at the Park Street United Methodist Church in Milo, with Rev. Michele St. Cyr officiating. A reception will be held after the service at the church. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery.
