Center Theatre wants to fill seats with food
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre and Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard have announced a campaign to fill the seats of the theatre with food. The ‘Fill the Seats Food Drive’ started March 22, with food being collected at the Center Theatre and Shaw’s Supermarket in Dover-Foxcroft. The food will be collected through April 7, at which point it will be bundled into bags, representing one meal per bag.
Patrick Myers, the executive director of the Center Theatre, hopes to be able to fill every seat in the theatre with food. “A similar food drive happened down on the coast and our board chair, Cindy Cyr, suggested we do something like it for the families in our community,” he said. The theatre has 264 seats, which could represent 264 meals for area families.
The Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard will be holding a distribution on April 9, so the food drive will end just in time for the donations to be given to anyone in need.
“It will be an amazing help to our friends and neighbors who come to DFAFC,” said April Sargent, chair of the DFAFC Board of Directors. Monetary donations can also be made to the food drive either by going to the Center Theatre’s website and clicking on the “Fill The Seats Food Drive” event or by mailing a check to the food cupboard at DFAFC, 76 Winter Street, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine 04426. The theatre website also has a list of suggested items that can be donated.
