Drive-in movies coming to Dover-Foxcroft

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre and Piscataquis County Ice Arena announced that they are partnering to bring a temporary drive-in movie theater to Dover-Foxcroft. The drive-in, which will be in the ice arena parking lot, is scheduled to show its first movie (“Wonder Woman”) on Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20. There will be one showing per night starting at 9. Currently the drive-in is scheduled to show movies for four weeks, but that may be extended depending on demand.

Matt Spooner, director of operations at the ice arena, said the capacity for the drive-in will be about 40 cars, “We’re following state guidelines for spacing to determine the maximum number of cars we can accomodate. We’ll also be offering concessions to purchase in advance or during the movies. Given the limited capacity we encourage everyone to purchase tickets in advance at the Center Theatre website centertheatre.org.”

GOING TO THE DRIVE-IN — The Piscataquis County Ice Arena is partnering with the Center Theatre to start a temporary drive-in located in the Ice Arena parking lot. The first movie will be the 2017 blockbuster “Wonder Woman” at 9 p.m. this Friday, June 19. For schedules and ticketing go to centertheatre.org.

Pricing for the drive-in will be based on which of three rows a vehicle is parked in. The row closest to the screen will be $20 per vehicle, the middle row will be $15, and the last row is $10 per vehicle. When customers arrive, they will enter the parking lot from the east entrance closer to Hibbard’s Skilled Nursing Center and Main Street West. They will drive by the concessions table to pick up any pre-ordered items and then be directed to their row by parking attendants. At that point they will also be given the radio station to tune so that they can listen to the movie audio.

Proceeds from the drive-in will benefit both the Piscataquis County Ice Arena and the Center Theatre, but Patrick Myers, executive director of the Center Theatre, says neither organization is in it for the money, “While any income is welcome while we’re shut down, the goal of the drive-in is mostly to cheer people up and offer something fun and for the community. We haven’t had a lot to look forward to so far this year, so any bright spot is welcome.”

The schedule for the drive-in is available at centertheatre.org. The mission of the Center Theatre is to make arts, education and entertainment accessible to our rural communities to engage and inspire. The Piscataquis County Ice Arena provides an environment where the people within our county, and beyond, can coexist and prosper in physical health, foster personal connections, and improve overall mental well being. For more information on the drive-in, visit the Center Theatre’s website or call the Theatre box office at 207-564-8943.
