Foxcroft Academy indoor track results
With the renovations taking place at the University of Maine field house delaying the start of the 2013-14 Eastern Maine Indoor Track League season by several weeks, the Foxcroft Academy team opened the year on Monday, Jan. 20 with a meet at Bates College in Lewiston.
The Pony boys scored 42 points to finish third out of five teams, ahead of the 12 scored by John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor and behind the 56 tallied by Ellsworth High School.
Finishing in first place was Foxcroft’s 4×800 relay team. Abraham Simpson, Nathnael Feleke, Paul Birtwistle and James Smith combined for a time of 9 minutes, 51.87 seconds. The 4×200 relay, made up of Corey Bjornson, Justin Diamond, Sebastian Zepeda and Peter Boyer, came in second with a time of 1:43.38.
In the 55 Boyer placed second at 7.21 seconds, followed by Bjornson and Diamond in third and fourth at 7.26 and 7.37 seconds respectively. Diamond was also third in the 200 at 25.68 seconds.
Bjornson came in third in the shot put with a distance of 44 feet, 3.25 inches, followed by Boyer in fourth at 43-03.25. Coming in third in the long jump was Zhe Chen at 15-08, and Simpson added a fourth-place run in the 800 with a time of 2:20.30.
The Foxcroft girls were fifth with a score of 23 points. Fern Morrison finished second in both the 400 and 800, with respective times of 1:05.49 and 2:41.54. Chastity Vainio was third in the 55 at 8.53 seconds.
Four Pony athletes had fourth-place performances, Erika Chadbourne in the 400 at 1:12.24; Kate Sukhanova in the 55 at 8.67 seconds; and Abigail McLeod in the high jump at 4-02. Jiaxin Wei was fifth in the 55 at 8.97 seconds.
Meredith Roderka of Dexter Regional High School ran in the Jan. 20 meet. While she did not figure in the team standings, Roderka had the meet’s second-fastest time in the mile at 6:35.24. Roderka also was third in the 800 at 2:52.42.

On Jan. 25 Foxcroft was among the teams to compete in the very first meet at the newly refurbished UMaine field house. The Pony girls tallied 34 points to finish fifth out of eight teams.
Morrison turned in the morning’s fastest time in the 800 at 2:35.77. She also anchored the third-place 4×200 relay. Holly Fortier, Mia Smith and Sukhanova joined Morrison for a time of 2:08.18.
Liza Grigorveya finished third in the two mile at 14:25.22, and placing fourth was Anna Sedlackhova with a time of 15:58.97. Chadbourne had another fourth-place finish for Foxcroft, in the 400 at 1:12.17.
Other Pony point-scorers were Smith, fifth in the triple jump at 26-09.50, and McLeod, sixth in the high jump at 4-4.
Roderka took part in the UMaine meet. She had the day’s third-fastest time in the mile at 6:27.42. Roderka also was fourth in the 800 at 2:50.39.
In the boys’ competition, Foxcroft finished sixth out of a field of eight with 22 points. Simpson was second in the 800 with a time of 2:15.77.
The Ponies were third and second in the 200 as Bjornson and Boyer ran respective times of 25.96 and 26.14 seconds. Also placing for Foxcroft was the team’s 4×800 relay, as Noah Simpson, Abraham Simpson, Gabe Piquette and Birtwistle were fourth in 9:46.64.
