Senior Network resumes

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — Summer is coming to an end and Senior Network is gearing up for its 2013-14 schedule. If you are a senior living or visiting in any of our area towns, please join us for a morning of friendship, good conversation, a delicious meal and learning opportunities, games, cards — or just visiting. Every Monday and Thursday, Senior Network opens its doors at the Community Center room at 10:30 a.m. in the Morton Avenue Municipal Building to area seniors.

GETTING TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS — Senior Network will be resuming for the 2013-14 schedule, meeting Mondays and Thursdays starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room at the Morton Avenue Municipal Building in Dover-Foxcroft.

    Senior Network starts their meetings at 10:30 a.m. with their “visiting circle” — grabbing a cup of coffee and getting caught up on everyone’s news and community happenings. Luncheon starts typically around 11:20 a.m. and the program or games and cards start by 12:15 p.m. Everyone helps with clean up and usually heads home between 1-1:30 p.m. Folks are welcome to come at any point in the morning and join in.
    On Mondays, the Community Café is hosted by Eastern Area Agency on Aging (EAAA). This delicious, well balanced meal is offered for a contribution of up to $4/person. Following the meal, a variety of informational programs is offered.  Some of the more popular programs have been historical tours through area towns led by local historical societies, senior medical care.
    On Thursdays, everyone brings something to contribute to the potluck meal. Without any real planning of “who brings what” – this meal almost always ends up with a variety of meat and vegetable dishes, breads and desserts!  So make your favorite dish or bring a can of fruit and join in the fun.
    On Sept. 5, Peter Wright will be talking with our guests about nutrition and on Sept. 19 Leslie Lizotte from EAAA will host her regular visit to talk about health care, senior services in the area and help people to navigate the sometimes difficult world of Medicare. 
    In October, Dick Brown from the Charlotte White Center will be on hand to speak about a new program this agency is offering to help seniors to stay in their homes. On Oct. 17, a representative from the Maine American Association of Retired Persons will be on hand to talk about the services offered through AARP.
    Senior Network has several volunteers and is always looking for more people to lend a hand. Volunteers help out in different ways, and may attend one day a month or more depending upon their preferences and availability.
    There is no fee to attend Senior Network. The municipal building is located at Morton Avenue in Dover-Foxcroft. Access to the Senior Network is through any door, including at the rear of the building through the green door that enters right into the Community Room. All entrances are handicapped accessible.
