Pineo hired as Limestone town manager
LIMESTONE — The Aroostook County community of Limestone’s search for a new town manager has concluded with the selectboard hiring Matthew S. Pineo, who previously held the same position in Brownville and later Sangerville on an interim basis.
In his career Pineo has utilized his private sector business skills Working for Lowe’s HIW Inc. (eight years in California and Maine) to bring formal business practices to municipal government as well as his ability to be creative in his problem solving. Pineo has an accomplished record in Bradford, Brownville, Jackman and Sangerville as well as active leadership as president of Piscataquis County Economic Development Council, CEO of Penquis Solid Waste Corporation, treasurer of Penobscot Valley Refuse Disposal District, board of directors for Eastern Maine Development Corporation, the Maine Town and City Manager’s Association Ethics, Leadership and Membership Committees and many more organizations.
Pineo has also provided teamwork, collaboration and leadership within the educational districts he has served and enjoyed working with the superintendents, principals, teachers and school boards. Pineo’s leadership in economic development utilizing grants from various funding sources will benefit Limestone and Aroostook County in the years to come.
When asked how the Select Board felt after their decision, Chair Stephen Beaulieu said, “We are indeed fortunate to bring Mr. Pineo to Limestone. His business and municipal experience speaks volumes as to the benefits that Matthew brings to our community and the County. Steve went on to say that the vote was unanimous and they are awaiting his start on Oct. 1.”
Other board members were equally excited at the prospect that Pineo will bring Professional Certified Town Management to Limestone.
When asked how he felt about coming to Limestone, Pineo indicated, “I am looking forward to working with the board, staff, residents and businesses in Limestone and collaborating with my peers in other municipalities, as this is a wonderful community with so many great opportunities.”
He added, “When I first ventured into town administration, I knew I wanted to work with rural Maine communities to offer professional leadership. Our small communities provide a wonderful network to build consensus and work towards a common vision throughout the county, from farming, production, education, energy efficiency, solar power and creating new opportunities to build on through collaboration and networking. I look forward to working with the residents to grow their community and achieve their dreams over the coming years.”
