Milo Historical Society’s fourth annual art show scheduled for Saturday
MILO — On Saturday, July 22 from 1 to 5 p.m. the Milo Historical Society will host its fourth annual art show at the Three Rivers Kiwanis Building, on Gerrish Road off outer Park Street. The art show serves as a fundraiser for the historical society, refreshments will be available, and the event showcases the creative spirit of community members.
Show Chair Gwen Bradeen said the 2017 exhibition is scheduled to have 33 artists taking part. “The most so far,” she said. “It’s amazing how many artists there are from the area.”
Bradeen said hobbyists, amateur and professional artists are all welcome to participate. They can display up to three pieces of two-dimensional art, including watercolor, acrylic, oil, ink, gouache, graphite, pastels, and colored or black and white pencil drawings.
“The furthest away is East Machias,” Bradeen said “We have all the surrounding towns, Dover, Dexter, Brownville, Milo, Bradford, LaGrange, Enfield — a lot of towns represented.”
Those viewing the artwork at the July 22 show will be the ones deciding who gets the top honors.
“The attendees vote and People’s Choice is first place and this prize is $150,” Bradeen said. “Second place is a $100 gift certificate from Dave Lockwood in Dover for framing, and third place is $50.”
“Artists can have their work for sale, we do not take a commision,” she said. “It’s between them and their buyer.”
Bradeen said Lockwood, who owns the Green Door Gallery on the Dawes Road in Dover-Foxcroft, “gave us a painting off to be auctioned off or sold, it’s an Egyptian papyrus.”
“This is the biggest fundraiser we have,” she said. “I hope people will come to enjoy the local talent and see the talent of people who live in this area. I just want to encourage people to come to an enjoyable afternoon.”
