
PCHS girls track third, boys fourth at Ellsworth
ELLSWORTH — The Piscataquis Community High School girls outdoor track & field team scored 43 points to place third among a field of four schools at a Penobscot Valley Conference meet at Ellsworth High School on May 8.
Pirate junior Judith Jannsen won the 400 with her time of 1:05.91. She was about a half second ahead of the 1:06.45 for runner-up senior Addison Atherton of the host school.
Jannsen anchored the second-place 4×400 relay. Freshman Ava Edes, sophomore Olivia Goodwin, junior Molly Goodwin and Jannsen together ran the race in 4:45.58.
Jannsen also came in third in both the long and triple jumps at respective distances of 13 feet, 9.5 inches and 30-07.
Edes had the top performance in the high jump at 4-08, edging Washington Academy of East Machias junior Kellan Schwin on jumps.
Junior Sadie Kelly won the 1,600 racewalk in a time of 9:31.07, well over five minutes ahead of the 14:52.31 for George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill senior Liz McDougall.
Freshman Ella Zeller came in second in the discus with a top throw of 73-01. She was also third in the shot put at 24-09.50. Freshman Lilly Boutiller finished fifth in the shot at 20-06.
Olivia Goodwin placed third in the javelin at 86-08 and fifth in the discus at 65-09.
Sophomore Hailee Marshall scored points in two sprints. Marshall finished fourth in the 200 at 31.92 seconds and fifth in the 100 at 15.30 seconds.
In the boys’ meet, PCHS finished with 37 points to come in fourth among five schools.
Pirate junior Chase Kilian won the 300 hurdles in 53.33 seconds, more than three seconds ahead of the 56.52 for George Stevens freshman Owen Hughes.
Kilian ran the first leg of the PCHS 4×400 relay as he, juniors Grant Higgins and Landon Mckenney and sophomore Phoenix Brown combined for a time of 4:18.70.
Junior Noah Kain had the day’s top javelin throw at a distance measuring 137-04, earning first-place honors by 21 inches over Ellsworth senior Benjamin Tate’s 132-07. Kain also came in second in shot put at 32-11.
Brown finished third in the triple jump at 33-05.50. He was also fifth in the 400 at 1:03.37 and fifth in the long jump at 15-11.50.
Senior Timothy Macneil had a fourth-place discus throw at 87-11 and fourth-place shot put throw at 32–00.
McKenney placed fifth in the 800 in a time of 2:32.57.
