Dexter golf wins PVC championship
LINCOLN — The Dexter Regional High School golf team earned top honors at the 2024 Penobscot Valley Conference Class C golf championship at the Jato Highlands Golf Club in Lincoln on Oct. 2— the Tigers third straight conference crown.
In addition to the three consecutive team titles, Dexter’s Chase Farnsworth was named PVC Class C Golf Player of the Year. The Tigers qualified for the Class C championship scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro. The berth is the program’s fourth consecutive.
Dexter beat runner-up Houlton High School by 30 strokes. Farnsworth was the medalist with a score of 76, freshman Ryan Farnsworth shot a 78, senior Ethan Doherty was next with an 80, followed by freshmen Wyatt Corson and Will Simpson at 81 and 82 respectively. These five plus seniors Cole Doherty and Tyler Gould will all compete in the Class C championship.
A year ago Farnsworth was part of a 4-way tie for second place at the 2023 Class C golf championship at Natanis Golf Course. Farnsworth helped the Tigers finish tied for eight place among 16 teams taking part in the championship match.
With a combined score of 357, Dexter and MCI tied for eighth place in the team standings. The Tigers were ahead of the 369 for 10th place Orono High School and behind the 351 for seventh place Hodgdon High School.
St. Dominic claimed the team title with a score of 327. Maranacook Community High School of Readfield was the Class C runner-up at 330, and the Kents Hill School came in third with a score of 333.
In 2022 Dexter came in third at the Class C championship with a score of 348. In 2021 the team placed sixth at Natanis with a score of 369.
Foxcroft Academy just missed qualifying for the state championship as a team, finishing with a 407 or just over the 400-stroke cut line.
Pony senior Calvin Landry qualified for the state final as an individual, shooting an 18-hole total of 88 or two strokes under the cut of 90.
Other Foxcroft golfers who were at the PVC championship were Josh Knapp, Chhoterith Tycheatvisoth, Cameron Pratt, Brady O’Connor, and Maddox Weidman.
