Dexter golf wins PVC championship

HERMON — The Dexter Regional High School golf team earned top honors at the 2023 Penobscot Valley Conference Class C golf championship at Hermon Meadows Golf Club on Sept. 28 — the Tigers second straight conference crown.

In addition to the back-to-back team titles, head coach Jim Costedio was named PVC Class C Coach of the Year for the second year in a row and the Tigers qualified for the Class C championship scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7, the program’s third consecutive berth.

Dexter finished first among a field of 15 teams with a score of 371, ahead of the 380 for runner-up Orono High School. Also qualifying for the state championship at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro was third place Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, 382; fourth place Machias Memorial High School’s 382 and fifth place Narraguagus High School of Harrington with a score of 396.

The Tigers’ Chase Farnsworth topped the field to earn medalist honors as he shot a 75 at the PVC championship. His performance helped earn Farnsworth boys Player of the Year honors.

A year ago Dexter came in third at the Class C championship with a score of 348. In 2021 the team placed sixth at Natanis with a score of 369.
