GFWC Miosac Club news

DOVER-FOXCROFT — GFWC Miosac Club President Minnie McCormick opened the meeting for Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Rheba Michaud’s home. She announced that hostesses were Anne Cress and Vicki Moschella. They decorated using a very colorful Mardi Gras theme with masks, necklaces, and candy.

Program was presented by Suzanne Raymond, a trunk show of her quilts.

McCormick led the Club Collect, Pledge of Allegiance, and the American Creed.

McCormick, for clarity, had members thumb through their club booklets to help familiarize new members of the meetings and procedures.

Secretary Diane Leighton did the roll call (14 members present) followed by the secretary’s report. There were no errors so it will be filed as read.

Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin read a thank you from the Kiwanis team for our participation in Kiwanis Christmas 2022. They helped 218 children.

Raymond read the treasurer’s report. Filed for audit.

Advisory Committee Chair Brenda Quiet reported the next meeting will be at the Congregational Church on March 7. Hostesses will be Quiet and Lorna Holman. Program Chair will be McGlauflin who will host a pound party. Raymond will be the auctioneer, money will go to the scholarship fund.

Vickie Parsons announced everyone is doing great health wise.

Publicity Chair Moschella said club news will be in the Piscataquis Observer.

Old business: 

McCormick announced Wendy Hutchins would like a committee to help with the Foxcroft Academy art show sometime in March in preparing snacks, posters, set-up, punch, etc. The District Art show will be on April 29.

Raymond ordered and received three dozen blue pin wheels for Prevent Child Abuse Month in April.

The club will have a yard sale in July. Date to be announced.

New business:

GFWC MAINE Spring Convention will take place May 12-13 in Bangor’s Hilton Inn. McCormick would like to see it well attended.

Remember to save corks and can tab tops for the environment chair. Monies to benefit Ronald McDonald House.

Everyone was asked if their directories were delivered. All except seasonal directories have been delivered.

The Congregational Church has asked us to put tables and chairs back the way they were — will do!

New business adjourned and Raymond proceeded to present her trunk show. She showed us over a dozen quilts she had made. They were beautiful.

A delicious orange gelatin and graham cracker crumb topping cake was prepared by Cress along with candy, pecans, tea and coffee. Many wore their Mardi Gras masks and necklaces. It was a very colorful atmosphere!
