By Ernie Clark HAMPDEN — The Foxcroft Academy boys track team will head into Saturday’s Class B state championship meet on Mount Desert Island with an emotional head start after winning the recent Penobscot Valley Conference large-school championship in dramatic fashion at Hampden Academy.

Major cities around the state build stadiums and lobby to host major sporting events like the Super Bowl and Olympics in large part due to the potential economic benefits.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Dexter’s Brandon Allen and Piscataquis of Guilford’s Haylee Patterson were among the top local competitors in Saturday’s Penobscot Valley Conference small-school track and field championships held at Oakes Field on the campus of Foxcroft Academy.

HAMPDEN — Foxcroft Academy junior Emily Mikoud placed second in the discus and third in the shot put to account for all 14 of her team’s points during the Penobscot Valley Conference Large School Championship on May 27 at Hampden Academy.

ORONO — The Piscataquis Community Middle School and SeDoMoCha Middle School track teams concluded the 2016 outdoor season at the Almquist Middle School Invitational on May 24 at the University of Maine.
