The Foxcroft Youth and SeDoMoCha Middle School wrestling teams attended the Pirate Wrestling Tournament held at Piscataquis Community High School March 31.

The Greenville High School boys basketball team traveled to Augusta on March 28 to receive a Legislative Sentiment recognizing the Lakers winning the 2018 Class D championship. During the visit the students met with their state legislators Sen. Paul Davis, R-Sangerville and Rep. Paul Stearns, R-Guilford.

Dexter Regional High School freshman Peyton Grant was recognized by the Bangor Daily News by receiving honorable mention on the 42nd BDN All-Maine Schoolgirl Basketball Team.

The Foxcroft Youth Wrestling and SeDoMoCha Middle School wrestling teams continued the great season as both teams traveled to Howland to compete at the Hichborn Youth Wrestling Tournament.

On Saturday, March 10 the Big Pine Gun Club hosted its fourth annual youth biathlon competition. To enter the biathlon, each participant had to have passed a rifle safety course. The competitors were separated into classes based on their National Rifle Association proficiency levels achieved while taking part in Big Pine's light rifle program.

At the end of February, three Maine men set out on snowshoes to hike the 100-Mile Wilderness, the most remote section of the Appalachian Trail stretching about 100 miles from Monson to Baxter State Park. They completed the arduous journey, over mountains and across half-frozen streams, in nine days, a feat very few hikers accomplish in the winter.

On Saturday, March 17 the Foxcroft Youth and SeDoMoCha Middle School wrestling teams competed at the Foxcroft Youth Wrestling Tournament held at Foxcroft Academy. Over 176 wrestlers from eight different teams attended the tourney. Both local teams had a great showing over the weekend.

Maine’s Libra Foundation, as part of its broader efforts to rekindle new activity and investment in Piscataquis County, is constructing a state-of-the-art ice arena on property adjacent to Foxcroft Academy.

Athletic competition typically is a test of risk versus reward. In this case, the risk for the participants might be a pulled muscle, a sore back and perhaps an uncomfortable night of sleep. But when coaches from Penobscot Valley Conference schools gather for their annual Coaches vs. Cancer basketball game, the reward will be much greater -- the chance to help a colleague, a player or someone within the community -- cope with one of life’s greatest challenges.

A number of basketball players from across the region were recognized by the Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) for their performance on the court during the 2017-18 season.

For more than two years The Outlet has provided a mixed martial arts (MMA) training center for all abilities, including those actively competing, others looking to take part in fitness programs related to the sport and children starting out in martial arts such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ). The Outlet Mixed Martial Arts Training Center now has several champions in both MMA and BJJ.

The North teams earned victories in three of the four high school basketball contests held March 10 for the McDonald's Maine Senior All-Star Games at Husson University's Newman Gym

Foxcroft Academy senior Jenna Clukey was named to the Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) All-Conference Swimming and Diving Team in a pair of events. Clukey earned all-conference honors in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles

Nick Foley of Greenville High School and Anya Chase of Wells High School were both recipients of a $2,000 Maine McDonald’s All-State Academic Scholarship during the March 9 Maine McDonald’s all-star banquet at the Anah Shrine Hall.

Foxcroft Academy wrestlers RJ Nelson and Elijah Ames both took part in the 54th annual New England wrestling championship March 2-3 at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.

They had waited 64 years to celebrate a state championship, but the wait didn’t stop there for the Greenville High School boys basketball program and its supporters.

The Greenville Lakers should have been riding high entering the 2017-2018 schoolboy basketball season. All five starters were back from the 2017 team that finished 20-2 and captured the Class D South championship before falling to Machias in the state title game.

Mr. Basketball finalist Taylor Schildroth of George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill and Miss Basketball finalist Kolleen Bouchard of Houlton will be among the participants in the annual Penobscot Valley Conference Classes C-D senior all-star basketball games to be played Tuesday, March 6 in Sereyko Gymnasium at Penobscot Valley High School in Howland. The games were moved up a day on account of a forecast winter storm. The girls game will tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the boys game at 6:30.
