A municipal solar power project will not be located at the town airport at the Charles A. Chase Jr. Memorial Field on Pine Street. During a selectmen’s meeting Tuesday night in the Morton Avenue Municipal Building Gymnasium, the board passed a motion to focus on a solar project at an alternate site other than the airport.

On Nov. 4 over 20 educators from across the state converged on Foxcroft Academy, an Apple Distinguished School, to learn about and discuss best practices in educational technology integration, specifically with the use of iPads.

The Maine Bicentennial Commission (Maine200) recently awarded the first round of Bicentennial Community Grants. Out of 44 applications from organizations and municipalities across the state, the commission chose a total of 30 grant recipients: 21 large grants and nine small grants at varying amounts. Among those are a Bicentennial Birthday Bash in Rockland, theatrical productions in Portland and Dover-Foxcroft, as well as conferences, educational curriculum, art exhibits, lecture series and more, spanning several Maine counties.

Citing what they feel is a non-proportional expense and lack of benefits, the Piscataquis County Commissioners are considering ending membership in the Maine County Commissioners Association. The commissioners discussed the possibility during a Nov. 5 meeting and plan to attend a meeting with officials from other Maine counties also pondering an exit to learn more.

Two months after the start of classes at the SeDoMoCha School and Foxcroft Academy, the Dover-Foxcroft selectmen learned about the start of the 2019-20 academic year from the respective heads of school during an Oct. 28 meeting.

Dover-Foxcroft selectmen will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Morton Avenue Municipal Building to gather feedback on a proposal to convert the municipal airport on Pine Street into the home of a 4-megawatt solar power project. At an Oct. 28 meeting, the board passed a motion saying they will not be taking any votes related to the project during the evening of Nov. 12.

The board of directors of the Piscataquis Regional YMCA, staff and community members gathered at the PRYMCA Oct. 22 to celebrate another year of service in Piscataquis County during the organization's annual meeting. Dover-Foxcroft selectmen are considering a plan to convert the local airport into the home of a 4-megawatt solar power project, a proposal that is drawing opposition from pilots who use the facility. In order for the solar project to move forward, Charles A. Chase Jr. Memorial Field would need to be decommissioned, a town official said. A public hearing on the plan has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Morton Avenue Municipal Building.

Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Charities held the annual fall dinner for Thayer Parkway residents on October 17. Over 50 residents and members were served a smorgasbord of chicken, tuna, taco, mac ‘n cheese, ham and casseroles as well as salads, maple baked beans and hot dogs, fall desserts, cider and coffee.

Dover-Foxcroft's Shallynn Stevens, a ninth-grader, has been named STAR Student of the Month by Maine Connections Academy (MCA), the state’s first virtual public charter school. The STAR Student of the Month is an MCA student who has shown particular accomplishments and spirit.

With the state’s firearms hunting season for deer looming, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s deer specialist says he expects plenty of hunters to fill their tags this year after a banner year in 2018.
