Center Theatre closing temporarily
The Center Theatre announced Monday that it is closing in an effort to slow the spread of COVID 19. According to an announcement posted on the website, "We are joining many other local organizations who are taking action to slow the spread of COVID 19 to give our healthcare systems and supporting infrastructure a chance to cope with this global pandemic. We do this not out of fear but from a sense of shared responsibility for the health and welfare of our community."

Friends of Community Fitness receives building owner key 
The Clarks agreed to a $10,000 sale price with Friends of Community Fitness covering the $2,300 closing costs, allowing Friends of Community Fitness to officially become building owners as of Nov. 22. The now permanent home was recognized with a “Keys to the Building Celebration” on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 29 with Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Denise Buzzelli presenting a symbolic oversized key.

Mayo Regional Hospital officially joins Northern Light Health 
Two organizations with a shared vision to meet the health care needs of the people of Piscataquis County have officially come together. Northern Light Health and Mayo Regional Hospital completed their merger agreement on Sunday, March 1. On Monday morning, Michelle Hood, president and CEO of Northern Light Health, joined with Marie Vienneau, president and CEO of the newly named Northern Light Mayo Hospital, for a press conference and celebration at  the hospital with employees.

Violet F. Moffett Memorial Fund established at Bangor Humane Society
The Bangor Humane Society is delighted to announce receipt of a generous bequest of over $1.3 million from Violet and James Moffett of Dover-Foxcroft, the proceeds of which will be placed in the newly established Violet F. Moffett Memorial Fund. “This is the largest single gift BHS has ever received,” said Executive Director Suzan Prendergast, “and we will forever be grateful for their remarkable generosity.”
