On Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at The Commons at Central Hall, a video presentation called “The Gut-Brain Connection: How to Heal Your Gut to Heal Your Brain” will be shown as part of the NAMI education program. It is free and open to all.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27 15 members and three guests of the Piscataquis County Retired Educators were treated to an absolutely scrumptious luncheon at DKB Catering in Greenville. Guest speaker was Sandra Ryder, Greenville resident and volunteer extraordinaire, speaking on issues that citizens in our area are facing as they age.

On Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. the United Methodist Church of Dover-Foxcroft will host a concert by Dan Schall, whose music ministry takes him and his wife on the road to share how God has touched his life with a beautiful singing voice in spite of his severe speech impediment.

After a successful two-weekend run at the Center Theatre, the cast and crew of “Tuesdays with Morrie” is getting ready to go on the road for two performances at Greenville High School. The funny and heartwarming play was written by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom and is based on the New York Times bestselling book written by Mitch Albom. Angela Bonacasa directs the Center Theatre's production.

The Parkman Grange needs the community’s help. The Grange well has run dry and a new one must be drilled immediately in order to carry on scheduled and planned activities, such as the upcoming Smoke Off (Sept. 14) and the annual Military Appreciation Supper (Oct. 19).

The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District has opened registration for final sessions in its popular Families in the Outdoors series. Families in the Outdoors was started in 2018 from a grant received by the Davis Conservation Foundation. The goal of this program is to engage with families outdoors and provide fun, educational opportunities to learn and play together.

On Tuesday evening, July 30 nearly 40 people gathered at the Brownville Community Church to view home movies recorded in Brownville Junction and along both the Canadian Pacific and the Bangor & Aroostook rail lines by Sam Michaud and his son Andrew in the 1940s and 1950s.

Pollinators are vital to food production all over the world. In Maine, examples of well-known pollinators include butterflies, birds, beetles and of course, bees. In June, the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) worked with local volunteers to plant its “Pollinator Sunflower Garden,” a garden space for the public to enjoy, observe and learn about native pollinators. In celebration of this new addition to the Law Farm, the PCSWCD will be holding a free Pollinators! event on Friday, Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Law Farm.

The annual Piscataquis River Festival returned to Guilford on Saturday with a morning parade celebrating the theme “Got Wood?”
