Whether it’s the last chapter of a book or the final episode of a television show, letting go of familiar characters takes a bit of time and adjustment. The month of May brings change and continuity to Dover-Foxcroft’s Thompson Free Library.

Join us for a morning bird walk on Saturday, May 12 as we explore springtime birds at the Law Farm. The Piscataquis County Soil & Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) will be hosting birding expert Bob Duchesne for a walk, starting at 8 a.m., to view year-round birds in Maine and also some returning springtime birds.

The Harold J. Crosby Community Band will be presenting its Carnival of Melody concert on at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 6 at the Dexter Town Hall. This annual event is a culmination of practices that began in January.

The Center Theatre announced that thanks to a sponsorship by Dave's World and U.S. Cellular all kids 10 and under can attend for free at the opening night of Disney's “Lion King Jr.” at the Center Theatre at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 4.

Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) is sponsoring a free workshop on Saturday morning May 5 at the Abbott Memorial Library. Patti Dowse will share her extensive knowledge of how to get the most out of the amazing little package of technology that more and more of us carry in our pockets.

From 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 4 Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) will host its monthly First Friday public meeting on the topic of healthcare by showing the film “Fixit” at the Abbott Memorial Library on Hall Street with a facilitated discussion following.

At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 7 the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District will host A & L Laboratories and speakers Matt Demers, superintendent of the Dover & Foxcroft Water District and Tom Demaso of Norlens Water LLC, a water filtration company, for a presentation on drinking water at the Morton Avenue Municipal Building.

The Wassebec Genealogical Society is sponsoring a free workshop on Sunday, May 19 in the Sebec/Borestone Rooms at Mayo Regional Hospital.

Two blood drives are scheduled for Friday, April 27. One will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greenville American Legion on Pritham Avenue and the other is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. at the Piscataquis Regional YMCA in Dover-Foxcroft.

Mes Amis, a Gypsy jazz quartet, plays at the Wayside Theatre at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. They play an infectious mix of traditional Gypsy, Latin and American jazz standards along with many original compositions.

The critically acclaimed movie “Seed: The Untold Story” will be screened at 4 p.m. on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22 the Center Theatre. After the screening, Will Bonsall the director of the Scatterseed Project, will be on hand to discuss the movie. Admission to the movie is by donation with proceeds offsetting rental costs for the Center Theatre.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Joe Siccardi, a recent mid-Maine transplant, has announced the public book launch of his first book “Heaven Shining Through.

From 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) will host a skill-sharing event at the Abbott Memorial Library on the basics of sharpening a chainsaw. When you understand the geometry of a chainsaw tooth and how it works in concert will all its neighbors, you can do a better job in keeping it sharp. And when it’s sharp, the saw works so much better, relieving stress on your body.

On the afternoon of Saturday, April 14 the Abbott Memorial Library will welcome Keith Ludden and Molly Graham of Oral History and Folklife Research Inc, which is dedicated to preserving the stories, recollections and voices of Maine people, events and movements.
