Land in Common (www.landincommon.org) invites farmers and homesteaders concerned about the future of their land to come learn about the community land trust model as a strategy for long-term land protection from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10 at The Commons at Central Hall, 152 East Main Street.

Celebrate fall with the 10-cent book sale at the Thompson Free Library, 186 East Main Street. The sale will be from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The students and staff of SAD 4 are inviting area veterans and the general public to attend the annual Veterans Day celebration at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.

Our Lady of the Snows Parish has its annual Christmas craft fair for community charities from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Route 23, one mile from the intersection by Dunkin Donuts on Route 7.

On Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. the Center Theatre will be hosting its third annual Pumpkin Jam Battle of the Bands Fall Fundraiser. The event will bring the Doughty Hill Band back to defend the title against the ever-popular Josh Guthrie Experience.

The Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard would like to invite the general public to attend an open house at the new location in the Piscataquis Regional Food Center building at 76 North Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15.

The fall hours for the Abbott Museum, 12 Church Street, are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday -- closed Sundays, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. The museum offers seven exhibit rooms on local history in areas of business, industry, recreation and veterans.

On Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. there will be a Wassabec Genealogy Society meeting at Mayo Regional Hospital in the conference room. The meetings are open to the public and the organization welcomes beginning genealogists to the most experienced.

The Dover Low Vision Group will meet at the Thayer Parkway Community Room, 33 Thayer Parkway from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1. The guest will be Aisha Hixon from The Iris Network to talk about cooking aids for a visually impaired cook.

The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District will be offering a free Permaculture Walk ‘n Talk at the Law Farm on Sunday, November 3. Come join us as we casually discuss ideas, topics and design projects with our returning friend and certified permaculture designer Steve DeGoosh of LOMAH Homestead and former assistant professor from Northern Michigan University in Earth, Environmental and Geographical Science.

Girl Scouts of Maine announces that it will host a new member sign-up event for potential members and volunteers at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29 at the Milo Elementary School.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs/Miosac Club met at Thayer Parkway October 15 with 12 members attending. President Suzanne Raymond called the meeting to order and Dot Tonick led the Club Collect, American's Creed and Pledge of Allegiance.

The Center Theatre is hosting its second annual Mischief Managed fundraiser at the Commons Event Center at Central Hall on Saturday, October 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. Harry Potter fans of all ages are encouraged to attend, costumes are encouraged but not required.

On Thursday, October 10 at the first Tea Talk meeting, Shirley Grant won a beautiful fresh flower arrangement, contributed by the Spring Street Greenhouse, for correctly answering the most Dexter trivia questions.
