Looking back, they seem like hazy years that I barely remember. Quaint, almost, in retrospect. I was younger, I actually had hair, and I didn't really understand everything that I saw. But still, I remember. A different man occupied the White House, but so much of the rhetoric about him sounded the same.

In November, there are four referendum questions on the ballot. Questions 3 and 4 concern borrowing for infrastructure and a revision of state pension rules. I believe these two are favored by the Legislature.

Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist Rube Goldberg is famous for designing machines or systems to perform simple tasks -- such as pouring breakfast cereal into a bowl -- in the most complicated ways. Each year, Goldberg's estate hosts a "Rube Goldberg Machine Contest," and I think Maine's Ranked Choice Voting would make a perfect entry, except there's nothing funny about it.

For many Maine moose hunters lucky enough to get drawn, a moose permit is a once-in-a-lifetime affair. Such was the case with my middle-aged friend Greg Goodman, who has been trying for that permit since he was a young man. The Red County Caucus wishes to interject a healthy dose of common sense into the debate concerning the ballot initiatives facing Maine voters this coming November. Both Question 1 and Question 2 have far reaching implications to future welfare of this great state. Voters should take the time to look past the rose colored rhetoric, over-used and tired political jargon. Investigate these questions through the eyes of common sense and the answers become clear.

But the Ramblers shook it off and annexed their first regional championship since 2012, nipping Dexter 2-1 on junior midfielder Kate Perkins’ goal with 3:19 left in the first overtime.
