The boards of directors of Penquis and the Charlotte White Center are pleased to announce that the two organizations have entered into a two-year management agreement under which Penquis Chief Executive Officer Kara Hay and Chief Financial Officer Denice Conary will provide the Charlotte White Center with executive and financial leadership.

On Oct. 21 the Ridge View Community School boys soccer team defeated Sebasticook Middle School of Newport for the Penquis League Large School Championship. The Tigers of Dexter defeated Sebasticook 2-1.

We have a winner! Melanie Baird, a local resident, will enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner that the Dover Cove Farmers Market raffled off as a conclusion to the summer market. She and her family visit the farmers market as often as they need fresh veggies and eggs, and feel that farmers markets are “vital to the community as well as the environment.”

The Piscataquis County Soil & Water Conservation District, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MIFW) and the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be holding a workshop on Maine bats Thursday, Nov. 16. The workshop will be led by Cory Mosby, biologist for Maine IFW, and Sarah Boyden, biologist for MDOT, and will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church at 824 West Main Street.

The Parkman Grange is again this year running the SAD 4 Santa Program, helping families in the school district -- the towns of Abbot, Cambridge, Guilford, Parkman, Sangerville and Wellington -- enjoy Christmas.

Maps are a great resource for genealogists. There are many types of maps, including digital ones, but the most popular is probably the cadastral map.

After 37 wonderful years of treating patients in Piscataquis County, I officially retired this past summer. I feel so grateful to have been a part of living in this great community where my patients were also my friends and neighbors.

Looking back, they seem like hazy years that I barely remember. Quaint, almost, in retrospect. I was younger, I actually had hair, and I didn't really understand everything that I saw. But still, I remember. A different man occupied the White House, but so much of the rhetoric about him sounded the same.
