The Grange is now just over 150 years old. On Dec. 4, 1867, sitting around a plain wooden table in Washington, D.C., seven men organized the Grange. They were all men of vision -- had faith in God, their fellow man and the future. Their focus was on agriculture and the principle that life would not exist without farming. From these humble beginnings, a fraternal order known as the Patrons of Husbandry was born.

At its annual meeting on April 24 the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis elected its slate of officers for 2018-19. They are President Jack Clukey; President Elect Joe Siccardi; Immediate Past President Marilyn Hartford; Secretary Rita Page; and Treasurer Barbara Moore.

The Center Theatre announced that thanks to a sponsorship by Dave's World and U.S. Cellular all kids 10 and under can attend for free at the opening night of Disney's “Lion King Jr.” at the Center Theatre at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 4.

To advance compromise on a critical issue of the legislative session, House Independents have proposed a tax conformity package combining the most practical, workable elements of each party’s proposed solution, with a view to a tax code that will provide stability and predictability for businesses and increase tax returns for low income Mainers.

The Guilford Memorial Library recently received a $550 grant from the Rose and Samuel Rudmin Library Trust Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. Grant money will be used to bring new adult non-fiction titles to the patrons of the Guilford Memorial Library, the town and the surrounding communities.

The Greater Milo/Brownville Area and Points North Visitor Center was officially gifted to the Milo/Brownville Three Rivers Kiwanis on April 9. A grand opening for the Greater Milo/Brownville and Points North Visitor Center will be held at Kiwanis Headquarters on the Gerrish Road from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 18. The event is open to the public and will be followed by refreshments and a tour of the center.

Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) is sponsoring a free workshop on Saturday morning May 5 at the Abbott Memorial Library. Patti Dowse will share her extensive knowledge of how to get the most out of the amazing little package of technology that more and more of us carry in our pockets.
