Two other regional proposals that also made the approved priority list must now wait to see if the state will find additional monies to fund their projects. The third-ranked proposal was submitted by officials from SAD 46 (Dexter area), SAD 4 (Guilford area), SAD 41 (Milo area) RSU 82/MSAD 12 in the Jackman area, the Greenville school district and the Dexter-based Tri-County Technical Center.

Gary Dethlefsen has discovered that when you live in a decidedly rural county like Piscataquis, diversification can be a key to successfully making a living. He has been interested in food related work for decades and has created three companies that help sustain him during the year: Moose Bee Jam and Granola, Lakeshore Provisions, Catering and Chef Services, including Mainley Treats Wholesale Baking Company (supplying bakery items for Northwoods Outfitters in Greenville), and Big Moose Deli which provides meals to hungry skiers during the winter season at Big Squaw Mountain. Now he has a fourth – Comida del Lago, a charming street taco stand at 3 Lakeview St. in downtown Greenville.

At age 35 I first developed a serious interest in politics, government, public policy, and how those three interests actually worked together in the real world. I was tired of being ignorant, more confused than informed by daily news stories.

Are you up for an exciting nontraditional canoe trip within the Allagash Wilderness Waterway (AWW)? The Allagash Lake to Indian Stream adventure takes in the most remote and historic sections of the waterway. Allagash Stream is one of my favorite stretches of the entire AWW. It features small water canoeing with a surprise around every bend in the stream.

Uncle Tim Pollard was a game warden’s game warden. At least that’s the impression you’ll get if you read a tattered, faded clipping of an article from the Maine Sunday Telegram circa 1926. At that time he was the longest serving game warden in Maine history.

Ron Harwood gardens in five gallon plastic buckets, many many plastic buckets at his farm in Harmony. Modern farming and gardening use a lot of plastic, not only in buckets, but in bale wrapping, row-crop mulching, greenhouse and high-tunnel covers, feed and fertilizer bags, produce bags and totes, seedling and planting trays and so forth.

The soccer club, Mid-Maine Revolution FC, started in 2015 and had one team with 12 players. Last year Mid-Maine Revolution FC had two teams with 25 players in the club. Into its fourth year Mid-Maine Revolution FC will have three teams with 38 players in the club for the upcoming fall season, a U-12, U-13 and a coed U-14 team.

The Guilford Memorial Library is pleased to be hosting local educator and author Michele Maingot Cabral. She will be doing a presentation about her books series “Waking Up From the American Dream” at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22

Three prestigious awards were announced at Foxcroft Academy’s 2018 Alumni Banquet, the Dr. Mary Chandler Lowell Award, the Tillson D. Thomas Award and the James S. Holmes Award. This year’s respective recipients are Linda Clark Howard ’63, Gene Philpot and Dr. Albert S. Buck.

UMFK will welcome five new players to its roster this fall, including former Piscataquis of Guilford guard Bryce Gilbert.
