Allan R. Snyder

Allan R. Snyder (age 61) passed away on Oct. 13th, 2016 with family members at his side. He was born Oct. 21st, 1954. the son of Richard E. and Glenice (Haley) Snyder. He graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1973. During that time he was a Junior Volunteer Fireman in Dover-Foxcroft.
After graduation he enlisted in the United Satates Air Force, where he continued his career in firefighting for four years. While in Japan he was awarded the Unsung Hero’s Award for action above and beyond the call of duty.
In the next twelve years he went to school, learning how to install the instruments to fire smart bombs in F16 Jet Fighters used in Iraq. He became an instructor in this position and travelled to a lot of places around the world to install this equipment in a lot of jet planes. He was given a ride in an F16 Fighter by the Air Force Blue Angels as a thank you for all his hard work. His last four years were spent fighting fires.
In 1998, while stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina, he was given a letter and certificate of appreciation for the quick and flawless execution of emergency procedures, which prevented serious property damage to the aircraft hanger. In 1990, he was sent to the country of Oman where prepared to serve in Desert Storm and Desert Shield of the Gulf War.
After returning home, he rejoined the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department, taking many courses and working his way up to Fire Chief. He was preceded in death by his father Richard and his niece Samantha Holcolmb. He is survived by his mother Glenice and three brothers, Bruce, Richard Jr., and Danny and, two sisters, Toni Snyder and Karen (Snyder) McNaughton, and all their families.
Allan was an avid fisherman and hunter. His last hunt was in September in the Allagash for bear for three days. He will have a full military funeral next spring.
