FA Ponies run at MDI Relays
BAR HARBOR — The Foxcroft Academy boys track team took part in the annual MDI Relays on April 27 at Mount Desert Island High School, finishing in fifth place out of 14 schools with a score of 63 points.
Senior Donald Boyer set a meet record in winning the 110 hurdles. Boyer set a new mark of 15.3 seconds, besting the 15.62 seconds set by Steven Rice of Brewer High School nearly three years prior.
Boyer was also second in the 300 hurdles at 43.99 seconds and third in the 200 at 23.71 seconds. He ran the first leg of the third-place mixed 1,200 sprint medley relay team. Joining Boyer was senior Angie Chen, junior Ryan Wang and sophomore Fern Morrison for a time of 2 minutes, 49.23 seconds.
Foxcroft’s shot put 4×100 relay squad finished in first place with sophomore Peter Boyer, senior Caleb Atkinson, junior Corey Bjornson and senior Cody Levensalor having a time of 52.35 seconds. Levensalor won the individual shot put with a top throw of 43 feet, 10 inches, and he, Atkinson and Bjornson finished in first place in the shot put team competition at 121-10.
The 4×200 relay — comprised of sophomore Justin Diamond, senior Wesley Stinson, senior Jacob LaBree and Wang — came in fourth at 1:39.90, and also in fourth was the Pony 4×800 medley relay — sophomore Julian Zepeda and freshmen Paul Birtwistle, Cooper Nelson and James Smith — with a time of 9:57.69.
In fifth place was Bjornson in the discus at 117 feet, as well as two relays. These teams were the freshman 1,600 sprint medley, made up of Blaine Robinson, Smith, Nelson and Birtwistle, at 4:29.64, and the 4×100 — consisting of LaBree, Stinson, Diamond and Wang — with a time of 48.56 seconds.
Sixth-place finishers were Bjornson in the shot put, at 40-03.75, and the Foxcroft 4×400 relay. Nelson, sophomores Sebastian and Julian Zepeda and senior Jeremiah McLeod combined for a time of 4:12.64.
In the girls meet, Foxcroft scored 16 points to finish 10th out of 13 teams. Morrison had a hand in all 16 points as, in addition to the mixed 1,200 sprint medley relay, she placed in the top four in both the 300 hurdles and the 200. Morrison was third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.14 seconds, and she came in fourth in the 200 at 28.41 seconds.
