Volunteers sought to plant 1,500 trees

    SANGERVILLE — The Sangerville Community Forest Committee will be reforesting three acres of the Bean Hill woodlot on Sunday, May 12 and is calling for volunteers.
    A total of 1,475 soft and hard wood trees have been purchased with the assistance of a $9,925 Project Canopy grant from the Maine Forest Service of the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.

    Volunteers are needed to plant the 500 black spruce, 450 sugar maples, 200 red oak, 50 white oak, 150 burr oak, 25 black cherry, 50 butternut and 50 chestnut seedlings and saplings. All those wishing to help should meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Bean Hill woodlot on Bean Hill Road in Sangerville and bring a shovel, gloves, hand clipper, lunch and bottle of water.
    The Sangerville Community Forest Committee will be working on the woodlot Sunday, May 5 and laying out the areas to be reforested.
    The Piscataquis County Economic Development Council assisted the Town of Sangerville in submitting the Project Canopy grant.  Anyone needing additional information may call the Forest Committee Chair Bill Rowe at 924-6891.
